I know it's probably false hope, but I just wanted to know if there were any options before I give up. When I installed AC, my PC said that two of the spec didn't meet the min. recs.

I'm on an Inspiron E1705 (laptop)(although the system info on my comp says its an Inspiron 9400...but I bought the E1705)
Windows Vista
32-bit Operating system
2 or 3 RAM (really can't remember which)
Graphics card: NVIDA GeForce Go 7900 GS
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00GHz

I looked online at my graphics card and it says Direct X 9.0 with SM of 3, but I believe SM was one of the minimums I didn't have.

At the beginning sequence when you are in the world everything was bright/blurry/chaotic and directions (to do moves) were being spammed it seemed (but that may be part of the intro im not sure). Going through the learning the moves/controls seemed decent enough, but when I entered the first actual gameplay (along with the cut scene) pieces of the environment were black or invisible- changing depending on the angle you were looking with the camera.

All in all my issue is that the graphics seem to be freaking out with things being invisible/black. Getting out of the memories or w/e and being in the lab was fine, but probably since it's much less complex.

Oh yea - I tried turning down all of the graphics/options while i was in the cave place and didn't really see any improvement, maybe slightly less freaking out of the graphics.

Thanks if you can help, and sorry if there is another post like this, I looked around and didn't exactly find what I was looking for (and things vary depending on system/graphics card)

Thanks for any help you can give (sorry for the long post).

It sounds like a driver issue, as you have a laptop, and the video drivers are usually customised by the makers, you can't just install the latest ones from Nvidia.
If your laptop maker has no newer drivers than the one you're using, you could try using a modded INF with normal Nvidia ones, this site shows you how to do that.

btw, the Inspiron 9400 is the Canadian version of the E1705

Thanks. I'll look into that later tonight. Just wanted to add that I tried playing again, and the cave scene/playing (only walked around a bit) was normal no glitching or anything, but being in the lab had the same issue as I explained before - things flashing/greyscale color changes. Thanks for the response, ill let you know how it goes.

The lab scene is supposed to look a bit strange, it's meant to appear as seen through a security CCTV camera.

Ah, well it doesn't seem normal. Maybe it's my processor speed (2.00) is lower than the rec (2.5 or 2.6?) Could that be the source of the issue?

This sounds like a shader issue to me, which may be caused by your processor. Another thing I noticed is that some 7900gs run with AGPx8. This could be the problem two, on account of the fact that PCI-e is much faster and more stable for games like this. This may not be your problem though, the 7900 was the transition from AGP to PCI-e and you may have gotten the better end of that deal with a PCI-e card. I'm not really sure but if I had to pick one of the two, I'd bank on the graphics card.

Yea - I'm looking into the link that BTOG posted and and tomorrow I'll probably make a decision if I should do it or not. What's weird is I can play perfectly for awhile, but it eventually gets laggy/the graphics thing happens again...but minimizing and then going back in usually solves the problem for a bit.

After saying that, it almost sounds like your filling up your ram, which may also be the problem. Although you have 2/3gb of system ram, your card only has 256mb (or so I think from looking at that series) It's very likely that your vram is filling up causing you some slowdowns until the memory gets dumped.

Is your laptop getting enough cooling, when I still used my laptop for games, I used to have it on a stand for better airflow, there's not normally enough space for good airflow underneath when it's just sitting on the desk.

Goin with what btog said, are you experiencing any kinds of color flashes like orange which seems to be common. If that's happening it can definitly be caused by overheating. If you want you can download nTune from nvidia and see how hot your GPU is running. This doesn't accurately represent your whole systems temp. but it pretty clearly tells your GPU's heat. If your GPU is over heating it may be casuing this. Anything above 80 celcius is really not desirable, and anything above 70 is still a little suspect.

Yea, it did seem to be more hot than usual, I'll try to find something to put under it so there is airflow between the laptop and the table. It's not unusual colors, its just like pieces of the environment/buildings/people flashing in and out I believe, or it's just a change in the greyscale colors of things.

Although better airflow will probably help the lag, I can't help but feel like the other issue won't be solved. Still think the modded INF will be a solution?

I do have the same specs: Inspirion E1705 Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, 2Gb RAM, GeForce Go 7900 GS, Windows Vista 32-bit, and I had the exact same problem.

The driver at: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16311

has solved the problem. I believe it's also the same driver provided by Dell at: ftp://ftp1.us.dell.com/video/nVidia_GeForce-GO-7950-GTX_P02_R172672.exe

So far the game runs very well on the laptop without overheating, just don't crank the resolution up too high. 1024 x 768 was fine for me.
