ok, i got assassin's creed yeasterday, it installed fine and everything, and it launched well. So here i am watching the intro movie, its all fine and good. I get into the toutorial chamber, it explains whats going on, and it lets me move. I get to the first trial (where i move my head around), and i do that easily enough. Now, i get to the second trial (people with jars on their head) and the game crashes. The audio continues, the robot thing still talks as if its fine, then the screen goes black, and i have to restart my computer (nothing else works, can't alt tab or anything). When my computer boots up again, a little pop-up comes up that says "The system has just recovered from a serious error.".
(btw, this crash happens every time i launch the game, and its always in the exact same spot, i tried taking longer to do the head thing, and it still crashed in the same spot)

i've tried running the game on lowest and highest visual qualities, tried changing screen res and everything, tried compatability mode (i don't know why, i just thought something might happpen), and earlier i tried alt tabbing right before the part where it crashes, but no luck there, it still crashed

Try removing/unplugging the USB Audio device. Next, update the driver for your video card. See if that fixes the problem.

Try going into your Catalyst Control Center and disabling Catalyst A.I. For some reason this game hates A.I. This fixed my chronic crashing so let me know if it helps yours. Also the usual:

ALL drivers up-to-date (video, north & southbridge, audio, etc.)
Newest DirectX package
Check for overheating
Stress test your components so make sure your hardware is not faulty
Use a registry cleaner to eliminate unused keys (ex: CCleaner)

You don't have much RAM I see (1Gb?). Try adding up to 4Gb. If it doesn't help Assassin's Creed, you'll at least reap the benefits elsewhere. Memory is as cheap as heck these days.

youe entire PC is under the system requirrements so it could just be a combination of all your hard warre being too low to run the game causing the crash.

another thing is you have next to no spare space on your hard driver with only 1GB of ram there is no way windows and a game will run in that space. for starters your with 1GB of ram you should set your page file to around 4000MB (but you dont have the space to do this)

how do i find the catalyst control center? i have a simlar problem, after playing for awhile the computer restarts

If you have an ATI card, the Catalyst Control Center is ATI's video settings suite and is separate from your video driver. If Catalyst is installed on your machine, you should be able to find it under your Programs list on your Start Menu. If you don't see it, try following the default path below.

C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static

Open "CCC.exe"

I don't know if Catalyst A.I. can run without the Control Center installed. You can always install the Control Center from the ATI/AMD website if you need to get it. Hope this helps.

nils199, you have an nVidia card. On one of your other posts you listed the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT as your graphics card and therefore the ATI Catalyst Control Center is for a completely different brand of graphics card and will not work. It will most likely further mess up your system; uninstall it immediately and reboot. Follow the instructions here to install the latest drivers for your nVidia card:
