I need more information on the part in bold. Does this mean you have CRC problems when you try to install OTHER games OTHER THAN Assassin's Creed?

If so, then you may need a new disc drive.

Oh, and random, but I couldn't even find your disc drive on newegg.com! Isn't that kind of... bad? Is your disc drive super-duper proprietary or something? (like it's ONLY manufactured by a company, or it's ONLY shipped with a certain brand of computer)

A CRC error is a "cyclic redundancy check." When it comes to software installations, it's typically used to detect differences between the data coming off of the setup disk and what will be copied/installed on the system. If there is a difference, the setup will display a CRC error and the installation typically stops. The fact that the setup is doing this is actually a good thing, as corrupted data would be copied to your hard drive resulting in an indeterminable amount of problems.

Typically, CRC errors are caused by one of the following:

1. Out of date firmware for the CD/DVD-ROM drive. If your system was bought "off-the-shelf" from a major system builder (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.) the vendor site will have the latest firmware for the drive. If you (or someone else) installed this drive separately, the latest firmware will be on the drive manufacturers website. Make sure you know the make and model number of the drive as well. Once you've downloaded the firmware, follow the instructions to install it and retry.

2. The computer contains viruses and spyware. Software setups typically copy files from the CD/DVD onto the hard drive in a temporary location, which are then subsequently put into their proper destinations. It's feasible that between the time these files are written to temp and the time they are written to their final locations, viruses or spyware are altering them. Make sure your anti-virus/anti-spyware software is up to date with the latest definitions. If you're not currently running valid anti-virus/anti-spyware software, these can be obtained legally online. Once this has been affirmed, temporarily disable these programs and try re-running the setup.

3. Virtual drive or other disk mounting software is installed. The copy protection on the game disk will clash with this type of software, sometimes resulting in a CRC error being thrown. Deactivating disk imaging software (or possibly uninstalling it outright) should get you around the error if this is it's cause.

4. The drive simply cannot read the contents of the disk properly. If this is the case, you'll need a newer CD/DVD-ROM drive that can read the disk. Fortunately, a new drive can go for as low as $15USD online from reputable online dealers.
