Hi all this is just a helpful hint for all the noobs out there that want antialiasing but cannot apply it in game.
I have the same issue, my gaming resolution 1600x1200 doesnt have anti-aliasing in game. To get antialiasing go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed open Assassin.ini edit line Multisampling= the number must be even, 2,4 ,6, 8... I am using Multisampling=16 Note: if you will use ALT-F4 to exit the game fast, sometimes the antialiasing setting will reset. |

if you have an nvidia card, you should have,an nvidia control panel you can turn it on yourself.

true, i forgot about that, thx

forcing antialiasing through the control panel doesn't work if your using a resoution that doenst have AA in game.
if you dont have the folder im talking about use search in windows for assassin.ini |

And if you're using an 8800GT or GTS 512, you might not be able to force AA - period! But that's a whole other issue which luckily cleared up by using the beta 174.74 driver. Thanks for the "recipe" Haxeety. I will try this. If I can't get the setting to stick with ALT-F4, I may look into using nHancer. |

I am now running the game on 1680x1050, FSAAx4, on a 8800 GTS 512Mb (with the new G-92 core), on the 174.74beta's. |

Never force AA through the nVidia control panel, running AC. Through editing the .ini file is fine (because it's ingame) as long as your card supports it. However it has been disabled for a reason so don't expect flawless result once you used this hack. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BlindNero Forums for online Dark Messiah MM and other games support |

Update...I read the Assassin's Creed Tweak Guide available at tweakguides.com and it appears that the valid values for Multisampling are 0, 1 and 2 where
0 = no AA 1 = 2xAA 2 = 4xAA and any other values are ignored. I experimented with editing the .ini file when using a 1600 x 1200 resolution and it does not matter what value you use. There is no AA at 1600x1200 - the game simply does not allow it. If you lower the resolution and actually see the AA bar in the Options screen, then AA is available at that resolution and you can use that slider to set it. I forget what is the highest resolution that allows AA in AC. It might have been one "notch" below 16x12. |

I have it at 3. Of course higher numbers are ignored (like the "16" of OP lol). Options are none, 1, 2, 3.
Works excellently on HD3870 @ 1600x1200. Vistax64 Ult, DX10 game version. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BlindNero Forums for online Dark Messiah MM and other games support |

What does 3 do? And does your HD3870 have 1GB of VRAM or 512MB? |

3 gives ingame: "multisampling = 3" exactly as it says. I don't know if it it means "3x" or a "factor 3" (which could in fact be 8x). Anyway, it definately looks better and nicely antialiased, then without.
My HD 3870 is 512MB. THIS is the result (comparison DX10.1 - 10.0). This message has been edited. Last edited by: BlindNero, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BlindNero Forums for online Dark Messiah MM and other games support |
