I'm getting pretty frequent crashes and quits. I tried updated to ATi driver version 8.6 (6/18/08) but that caused all kinds of video corruption. I have since dropped back to 8.5.

I've looked at similar issues but couldn't find a solution. I've posted my dxdiag below, per other thread instructions. Any advice appreciated.

If you overclocked the card, try the game with lowered memory clock, or even at stock speed. See if the problem still exists.

I enabled ATi overdrive, but there seems to be no way to disabled it. I simply put the values back to stock, but I still see the crashes -- I actually lowered it to below stock, setting the core to 700MHz, but AC still crashed.

If you have overclocked the CPU/RAM, try lowering it, see if the problem still exists.

Also:
-try the DX9.0 version
-make sure no unneeded programs running on the background (even outlook email-notification can crash a game)
-disable the update function by renaming the folder "Resources" in the game's directory, by adding an "X", to XResources".

I did that prior to reading your post, and that seems to have corrected the issue... I at least was able to play for a while without the crashing.

Strange... The only way I could play Assassin's Creed was to overclock my CPU. But over here on this thread, you actually had to play with stock values! Ironic for me that is.
