At this point, I'm about ready to put a fist through my PC screen...
AC is a great game and has played just fine. I've used no walkthroughs until now, did all assignments with no probs, have killed 100+ men on the way from Jerusalem to Arsuf w/o getting killed, and am now stuck hard in the final battle with the real Robert and his gang. I've replayed the whole sequence at least 20 times now, using basic melee swordfight techniques that have been successful till now: hold defense stance and counter attack, dodge grabs, and grab/throw. I'm on PC and unless I'm missing something, using the hidden blade in melee combat works some of the time, but not reliably enough for this fast a fight, with this many strong opponents. There are just too many of these guys, hacking fast from all sides, to keep health/synchro up and sustain an effective offense. I have knocked or thrown Robert to the ground several times, but always get diverted into another fight and get finished off before being able to deal with him. One time, I did manage to kill every man save Robert. I got him on the ground, but repeated sword-hacking had no effect...my health was near-gone by then, he got up and punched me, and that was it. One thing I've noticed throughout, and especially now: The Islamic men-at-arms and knights are reliably easy kills, even in large packs; the Crusader men-at-arms and officers only slightly more difficult. The Crusader knights and Templars are quite a bit tougher, especially in packs, though easy enough one to five at a time. Enough of this rant...if anyone can offer some helpful suggestions on how to get through this fight, it would be very much appreciated! |

As far as i know no boss can be killed that way, so the knock-back and hidden blade works best!

@cotheer:
If you're playing on PC, I'd be grateful for any advice on hidden-blade use. On some other threads I've found, the consistent word is the hidden blade is the way to deal with this last big fight, but I have yet to get the technique down. |

Well, the point is to knock-down the boss with something like combo, and while its down u can't hit it with normal hits, so u have to tap the hidden blade button (number 2, above W) and press hit button, and if ur fast enough u can kill it in a matter of seconds!
Or u can go hard way, and try hitting him untill u kill him, this works too, and when u deal the last blow the animation will show u killing him with hidden blade (even if u didnt use it) Hope i helped! |

I finished the game this evening!
Went back and replayed the Battle of Arsuf sequence six times, stopping short of the Robert battle, then replayed it and got Robert and all of his men on the first retry. I never could get the hidden blade melee combat trick down, so I just practiced hard with the sword and used it for the entire battle. Once all his men were down, I had one white health bar segment left, and Robert still standing. He grabbed and threw me down once, but I recovered and it only took two sword strokes to knock him down, then a quick switch to the hidden blade to do him in. |

what the... never knew about the hidden blade trick... stil made it on my first run... I just killed every man save Robert with combo's, counters grab/throws and countergrabs... then I kept on countering Roberts grabs, knocking him down, waiting for him to get up, dodging his sword and countering grabs, until he was on the ground again, then wait in def. stance till he got back at me. At certain point i got tired of this and gave a swordstrike, which killed him. It was hard. It worked.
Had almost full bar at the end. ______________________ What you read in my posts and what I am trying to tell you. One might not be the other, while the other might nog be one. Please disagree, I love a healthy debate. I don't hate you. I don't know you. I don't want you. I don't exist. Do you? The shadows are the best place to hide. Even the sun can't spot you there. What do you think about the information and communication of Ubisoft? |

After the fight with his men and you fight Robert, run in circles until your sync bars are full. Then grab and throw/counter-grab, when he is on the ground select hidden blade and assassinate him.

I usually use the shortsword/ throwing knives weapon for large crowds. It even says somewhere that doing that is what it is for. Parry and counter as much as you can without getting hit and try to move so some enemies are far away behind you. Then turn and throw a dagger for a one hit kill on as many as you can. When you've thinned the herd to a small handful step back and draw the sword and finish the rest.
On my second go through the game I threw the last of Robert's men near him then ran up to him and killed him. Just as Robert started challenging me and drawing his sword I ran several steps to him (I never bothered with target lock since it slows you down) and tried to hidden blade him. IT WORKED! He never even finished drawing his sword the poor fool. Then I sat back and laughed sinisterly for a minute, as any good villain would. Mwa-ha-ha-ha! |

Aye, I know how it feels – I had this battle yesterday and it took me about six tries to finally defeat him, twice Altair died when Robert de Sable was already alone. :/ It was really annoying that their attacks were inflicting double damage as usual but what really ****ed me off is that de Sable can’t be attacked while laying on the ground. I mean, oh come on, you could’ve thought of another way to increase the difficulty but that was just lame. And the fact that generous Richard offered to settle the conflict with a honorable "duel" - Altair alone against some 12 crusaders. Finally I defeated him by a counterstrike. |
