Well, by some miracle I was able to finish the game after adding my second 8800GT and putting my second monitor on a 6800GS. That gave me a bit more memory to work with, which got me past the points where I was getting memory overflow issues (which could be anything from BSODs to instant reboots, to game crashes). Still, given that my system is not officially supported, I'm glad I was able to finish it! Thanks to everyone here that helped me troubleshoot a bunch of my issues!

Hi!
I have the same problem as almost everyone else: the game crashes to a problem with the "nvlddmkm.sys" after just few minutes of "playing". Here are the specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (3ghz) OCZ 4GB DDRII 800 PNY Geforce 8800 Ultra Win Vista Ultimate 64bit So thank you Ubisoft for this 45€ paperweight. I really hope you guys would properly test and fix the problems before releasing.. |

Hi guys,
My first post on here. I thought it was worth me stating that I'm having exactly the same problem as ClydeFrog, the initial poster. I can get between 5-20 mins of gameplay before the red artifacts appear the whole system eventually crashes. Yet another disgruntled customer - not happy with paying for a game that I can't actually play. I'm running a BFG 8800GT OC2 on XP SP2 and can play Crysis and COD4 pretty flawlessly at 1680x1050 on high settings, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue at my end either. Please Ubisoft, get your acts together and do some proper testing before releasing a game as popular as this. The sooner a patch is made available, the better. |

Although I'm surprised I didn't notice it before, it does appear that the 8000 series of GeForce cards are having issues with this game. I do still believe that it is something that Ubisoft will be able to patch, as there are games that are equally or more demanding, graphically, that run fine on 8000 series cards, so I guess we'll just bide our time and wait for a fix. I, for one, would LOVE to go through the game again without the added tension of wondering when/if it was going to crash on me!

Hey,
removing AC from the firewall exceptions listing solved my crashes, seems that I finally noticed my router flashing just before crash. Game is trying to go somewhere online during gameplay?? blocking this out fixed the crashes for me. |

System:
Asus A8N SLI SE Athlon X2 3800+ @2400MHz 2GB G.Skill CL 2.5 Radeon 3870 (Catalyst 8.4) SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Vista x64 SP1 (DX 10.1) Although Radeon Gfx Cards seem to run better with AC I have freezes after max 2mins of play and just can force a shutdown of AC by the Taskmanager. There are no artifacts or other failures that announce the crash of the game. It just freezes. Thats it. Taking back the CPU OC does not help either. It runs with 46°C at max load even when it is oced. ATI now officially announced that AC supplies DX 10.1 what should improve the performance by 25%. (Source) That still does not help with the crashing problem. Edit: CPU Usage: 65% RAM Usage: 70% So my hardware resources seem to be sufficient. Disconnecting NIC extends playtime to about 4mins. |

same problem here guys.. i dont have a mammoth of a pc like u guys but its pretty decent to play Gears of war and crysis at medium settings.. But i too am experiencing random Crashes with assassins creed... I thought it was because of my hardware but when i saw this thread i was shocked coz people playing with 9600gt are having problems, then seriously there is something very wrong with the game..
My "Ancient" pc specs are Intel 915gav and 3Ghz Processor 1024Mb Ram DDR 400MHz Nvidia 8600GT 512Mb DDR3 Hope it gets resolved soon... |

4 crashes in 30 min.
What a hunk of **** this game is. I hope to hell UBI soft is coming up with a patch to resolve these issues. oh well, off to go play RB6 Vegas 2 let's see how many issues that game has. Same problem here, red artifacts in the middle of the tutorial. Contacted Ubisoft held desk a couple a days ago but to no avail. Paltry solutions for an unnerving experience. US guys this game costs $ 75 in Germany.
Hence I will return the game to my vendor and ask for indemnification. |

i am actually not too surprised by this game not working.. i was one of the lucky people that couldnt get Dark Messiah working.. but i was gullible enough to believe Ubisoft maybe hired better programmers this time around, and bought Assassin's Creed.
since then i havent been able to properly play the game.. just hoping that i can do at least one quest before it crashing.. i have been in Damascus for the past week. PC Specs: 7900gt 2gigs Ram 667 e4500 cpu Windows XP 32bit (yes not top of the line, but PC parts in South Africa are expensive) for interests sake: i play Gears of war full graphical spec,UT3-full spec, Crysis-medium-high spec, The Club- full spec, Call of Duty 4-full spec and i have finished them all with no issues I 'play' Assassin's Creed semi-High, with no graphical sign of it 'struggling'(other than the initial level load jerk). after the first few crashes i assumed it was my PC that oddly couldnt handle it, so i dropped the setting down to low, and love and behold, it stil crashed at random intervals. after that i came here to see if there was a patch out, but found nothing but more people with the same problems,another deja vu of my Dark Messiah experience.. hell even the admins are the same ones, and this previous experience, i am gullible enough to try all these "solutions',the network card disabling, the manual graphic setting in Nvidia panel, even the no-cd exe, etc etc etc.. all to no avail.. oddly i doubt the patch will fix anything(ala Dark messiah's 2 patches that did nothing, then they gave up on the game..lol), BUT i will be gullible enough to try it, maybe this time i will laugh instead of throwing a dvd at my wall |

@th3v1ru5_335: Well, I figured that since even the console version had issues, it was a possibility the PC version would, also, but eventually they'll get it sorted out. I do feel, however, after struggling through the game with numerous crashes, that it was worth the effort, and will be worth the wait for those who are waiting on a patch to remove (or at least highly limit) the crashes many of us have been going through.

i have no problems with the game itself.. i have wanted to play it since the first leaked screenshots, and was even more excited when they announce PC release.. i am just upset that i cant really play this awesome game
between crashes i have alot of fun, even had a good laugh when my assassination attempt on a Scarlet crusade dude turned into a slap fest, alerting him and about 6 guards.. yet as i was escaping, it crashed |

Hello everybody,
I just wanted tu summ up my experinces with ac and the bug I'm experiencing. First of all ac looks georgeous and runs great under one certain condition (see below). I have everything at the highest settings, 1680x1050 and it runs smooth (30-60 fps). And ac is a lot of fun! However, it is only possible for me to get ac running when i set the memory bus (nvidia control panel with ntune) down to 900Mhz (from the original 972Mhz), gpu and shader run at the factory settings(gpu 678 and shader 1728Mhz). Otherwise ac crashes, with the video freezing at partly the loading screen or a couple of minutes later. The freeze is normaly accompanied by graphic artifacts (tiny red lines) and followed by eighter the monitor loosing signal (all black) or a BSOD pointing to nvlddmkm.sys beeing the culprit (request from timeout resetting failed; which doesn't mean its a driver problem as Slybak mentioned). This happens under vista 32 sp1 in dx10 or dx9 mode as well as under xp sp2. AC is the only game giving me that problems. Crysis, cod4, wic or vegas2 run fine (at 1680x1050 highest or very high settings). My computer is memtest stable, prime95 stable and the videocard easily handels a couple of hours the ati tool for artefact scanning or 3dmark06 graphics test loops. Heat doesn't appear to be a problem either (I have 4 fans running, and my system doesn't get too hot!). My specs: q6600, asus maxiumus formula, 4gb ddr2, vista 32 sp1, msi 8800gts-oc edition, 650w power supply, nothing oc'ed I tried pretty much everything else (like disabling internet connection, reducing the settings, increasing the fan speed, each nvidia driver from december07 on ...) and only downclocking the video memory helped. I hope this summary helps other people and the devs in writing a patch vanish This message has been edited. Last edited by: vanish0815, |

@sortakinda:
... i would consider lowering the (quite heavy) overclock on your Q6600 and RAM, and replacing the PSU with a more powerful one, before blaming the game for the crashes. Also, install SP1 for the "nvlddmkm.sys" error. (also try this) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BlindNero Forums for online Dark Messiah MM and other games support |

The nvlddmkm.sys error is not really a driver issue per se. Under Vista, anything that causes the GPU to fail to respond will cause it. It's part of Vista's Timeout Detection and Recovery routine.
It could be faulty hardware, overheating, bad drivers, bad software, etc. It could even be related to crashes certain people are experiencing under XP. |

i just got the game a few days ago and i was so excited that i finally have a great game to play during the holidays... unfortunately, i have the same issue as you guys ... i am running:
Vista Ultimate 32 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 ghz 2 gigs of RAM GeForce 8600 GTS I tried EVERYTHING, the game just freezes after about 20 minutes and there's nothing i can do about it except pushing the restart button. i tried a lot of nvidia drivers , even the newest betas out a few weeks ago but still the same result. I BEG you if you have any idea please tell me ... i've been waiting to play this game for so long.. |
||||

Did you try to downclock your videocard?
That helped me... (See above) |

Hello everyone!
I had the same problems with my GPU and the blue screen with nvlddmkm.sys But now i have found a solution!!! I was using an EVGA 8800GT SSC edition with the latest bios and drivers version 174.74 running normal, factory settings. What i did was lower the Memory Clock to 900 instead of standard 1000 inside the nvidia control panel (ntune or esa software). Now all the crashes are gone, and i can play uninterrupted! I thank the person on the other forum who provided me with this sollution!! Please try and let me know how it goes!!! |

Exactly the same helped for me
(But sadly, now my system memory went bad...) |

same problem but takes me longer around 30 to 40 minutes .
