Just got my copy of Assassins Creed in the post, and went straight to installing it, but ive hit a brick wall. About 3/4ths of the way into the installation, it stalls, then comes up with an error message about some data cycling check. So i then tried copying everything off the cd into a folder on my desktop, but then it gets stuck on Data4.cab. What should i do ?

Specs -

AMD Athlon X2 6000+
4GB DDR2 Memory
GeForce 8800GT 512MB
Onboard Realtek HD Audio
Vista Home Premium 32Bit

Edit - During the install, it gets stuck on "DataPC_Jerusalem.forge".

Hmmm I have exactly the same problem. Cyclic Redundancy Check on the same file "DataPC_Jerusalem.forge"
Does this have anything to do with the ingame problems with the Jerusalem level i've been reading about?
I'm going to take the game back to EB for a replacement tommorrow. I'm hoping its just a corrupt copy of the game.

I dont think so, I have windows xp the 32 bit version. I'm inclined to believe that there are quite a few corrupt copies out there.. Obviously they had to ship that way from the manufacturer indicating a manufacturing fault

Ive now tried to copy Data4.cab onto 2 other PC's (my dads laptop, and my sisters desktop) and they both failed, but strangely on my brothers laptop it copied over (slowly, but surely). Im going to try installing it now but obviously im not very happy and still want a replacement disc if there is some manufacturing **** up.

That to me would indicate a defect in the disc itself. I have found in the past my **** cd drive on my old computer seems to read discs my gaming rig can't...

I'm having the same problem:

Feature Transfer Error

Feature: NewFeature1
Component: data
File: D:\data4.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Is this is a corrupt disc or my PC?

Unless you have had problems with your dvd drive, odds are its the disc or the data on it. Sad

Perhaps we can narrow this down further. I purchased my copy from an Australian EB retailer. The box indicates it was manufactured in Australia. If the rest of you are the same perhaps the Aussie manufacturer is to blame

SOLOUTION...

I have just got my self a DUAL LAYER drive and its intalled no problem.

DATA Cab 4 is the section of the disc which is more than a DVD drive can read which is why it cant find the section. Mine stopped on Jeruselum.

Im now about to play Razz

Dual Layer dvd drive SATA = Approx £20

Hi
I had the same problem with CRC errors and the game not installing. It would get stuck on DATA3.CAB.

So i tried it on another Computer and got it to install first time. So i knew it was not the disk.

I had a spare NEC DVD drive and have installed that instead of my LiteON DVD drive and it worked. The other computer also had a NEC DVD on it.

So im wondering if its to do with DVD drive compatibility ??

Hetter.

So in order to play the game I am going to have to buy a new Dual Layer dvd drive?

I currently have a NEC 18X DUAL LAYER DVD±R/W RAM RECORDER so am wondering why I would have to fork out more cash to play the game?

yes this problem is caused by the game disc security not being readable by you dvd drive so if you can get a lend of a disc drive from a friend and give that a go.

One thing to try that avoids buying a new drive, is to use a utility to slow down the drive to try and avoid read errors.
You could try Nero DriveSpeed or CD-Bremse

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/download.html
It's the second one on that page you want.

OK. Had same problem. Read this thread, saw BTOG46's post, downloaded Nero DriveSpeed. Didn't work for some reason... However, brought my attention to the firmware version of my drive, saying near the top "Asus DRW-1814BLT v1.04".

So I thought "there has to be a newer firmware since I bought my drive..", setting out to find it on the Asus website, I was successful - finding v1.14 and downloading it. As it was flashing, I read through the previous versions of firmware fixes - and for v1.10, it stated "Improved Dual-layer reading compatibility".

Flash was complete, rebooted PC, got to Jerusalem and.... it completed, albeit VERY slowly :P.

The two morals/conclusions to the story?

1. Update your firmware.
2. Copy protection is annoying.

Just a quick note on using Nero DriveSpeed, the speed control settings are only available with the DVD in the drive, and you should use the utility's open and close button instead of the actual one on the drive.

When i try and run the drivespeed.exe i get the message unable to initialize WNASPI32.DLL??

I have the latest firmware for my DVD-RW and still can't run the damn game. I'm not going to buy a new one for just one game.

Looks like i'm going to have to take this back.

EDIT-my current DVD-RW is dual layer, and it still doesn't work

If you're not having any luck with Nero, you could try CD-Bremse, it might work better for you than Nero.
