I just got a new PC so I tried installing HOMMV again. Well it works better, but I am so tired of the lag! I can give you the info about my PC, but not sure what else would help. Not a true gamer, I am just a Heroes junky. I have all the other games, and play them repeatedly. I even still toss in the first one and play it when I get bored.

3 days now, and I am ready to remove this game from the computer. I can't stand to sit there and move the cursor around and around and around praying it will stop on a place I could click on. I made it to the trap, and mentally I can;t keep playing.

Any patch's, tips, tricks... Lord knows I love the Heroes games, but I refuse to play a game that lags so bad I spend 5 min. trying to make cursor quick hopping around screen.

Please help, I want to love this game, I want to play this game. Waited a year to afford a PC upgrade, and now I am crushed. Still doesn't work.

That's an old board you bought! AGP, and a Radeon X1650 PRO with GDDR2. You haven't mentioned the RAM. As it looks it is not quite "Vista ready". You need at least 2 GB RAM, then still it won't be a very responsive PC running Vista.

Anyway, make sure you installed the Vista patches.
Must have essential fixes:
KB938194
KB938979
KB940105
KB941649

To see which updates you have/don't have yet: View the history in Windows Update in Control Panel, or go to Installed Updates:
Start button > Control Panel > Programs, under Programs and Features, click "View installed updates".

To allow a better view on your system's status, please post your dxdiag.

Go figure I end up buying what I thought was an awsome PC, only to find out, its not. I hate VISTA, I want it gone! I am not sure what your asking for dxdiag? There are times when I feel like I have never used a PC. Specially when asked questions I have no answer for.

According to the control pannal I have 1022 mb

I assume you didn't buy Vista yourself then, and it was installed by the previous owner of the PC? This PC is of previous generation technology (2005), fine for XP but for DirectX9.0c gaming quite moderate at best with 1GB RAM and AGP X1650Pro GDDR2. Vista does not belong on it and doesn't find enough resources to run efficiently. You're better off formatting Vista away and installing XP on it.

My other Pc killed two motherboards so I got one online. I thought I did research and picked something that was pretty up to date. I suppose my old PC was just so outdated this one is a rockstar to me!
Vista came pre-loaded on the PC, and I have had nothing but problems. Several games freeze up, or won't even load on it. I have downloaded all the upgrades and service paks for it. I see no differance. Basically what your saying is this game is still too big for my computer. I just noticed many others having the same problem so I assumed it was not my PC.

I wonder if formatting and putting XP back on would make a differance.
Thanks anyway, guess I will go back to Heroes 3 or 4 again.
