I recently bought Heroes V (as part of the new "Complete" edition, featuring all of the previous games too).

The game installed fine, and runs perfectly well when I'm playing it, except that when I try to save the game, no file seems to be created (this is for autosaves too). When I open the "Load" screen, no files are available.

My computer is part of a small local network, so I think the problem may have something to do with getting the games to save to a network drive. I've tried creating the folders myself to solve the problem, however I have had no luck. I have found a folder which seems to be full of savegames in this directory: "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V\bin\rra-dc-01\"networkusername"\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves" , and I have tried transferring the files over, which also has not worked.

Is there anything anyone can suggest, as I am out of ideas. Is there any way I can change the save directory? Any help would be greatly appreciated (because I REALLY wanna play the game Frown )

Many thanks.

Your problem seems to be that the save-games directory has been put at the wrong place.

It should be at :

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves .

Since the My-Games-etc directory appears to have been put at the wrong place, when you are in the game-program, it cannot load the saves, because it does not see them where they should be -- they do exist, as you have noticed, but they are incorrectly located.

Try this :

COPY only this segment of the long path you mentioned \Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves (incorrectly located within C:\Program Files\Ubisoft) INTO your C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My documents\My Games.

You then should have this :

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves .

Please report back here to say if it worked or not.

I tried all that, and it still refuses to work... I can't think of anything else to try, short of re-writing the file that contains the default save directory... but I can't find that file. :'(

What I do not understand is how you got that path in the first place :

quote:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Heroes of Might and Magic V\bin\rra-dc-01\"networkusername"\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves

In the 3 previous retail editions of H5 (1.0, 2.0 & 3.0), that kind of path did not exist, and the saved games where located at :

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My documents\My Games\"H5 edition's name"\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves.

I would try this :

1a. Create the proper folders within the C:\Documents and Settings, as indicated above ;

1b. CUT that strange \rra-dc-01\"networkusername"\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profilename"\Saves OUT of the BIN (I don't have that in my own H5) ;

1c. PASTE it into a TEMP folder, in case you would want to put it back into the BIN.

2. If that doesn't work, create a new profile, start a custom game, save it, and then, try to load it. If the file's name does not appear, exit the game and try to find where it has gone.It should have gone into a :

C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\My documents\My Games\"H5 edition's name"\Profiles\"new profile's name"\Saves.

3a. If that does not work, UNINSTALL the game (with Windows's add/remove-program function) and remove everything that has to do with H5 (even what was located in the C:\Documents and Settings directory -- related to H5, of course!). Use the freeware CCleaner to scan the registry and finish-up the job of removing any residual H5 Registry entry.

3b. REINSTALL. Start a custom game with a new profile, save, and try to reload.

I assumed that you had Windows XP. If your OS is Vista, I do not know if the situation would be different.

I've seen, on this tech-help forum, a few posts of Vista users experiencing problems with saving games. I can't help because I don't know anybody who has Vista and plays at HM&M 5.

An experienced Vista user could help out, here.

I have installed it on my PC which is part of a network. I can not see my saved games, in the bin folder I see this path:

Achilles/Users/man/MyDocuments/My Games/Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East/Profiles/Xallow/Saves/

I am not connected to the network when I play, and I was not connected to the network when I installed the game... I installed it on my work laptop, since my own computer died and there is no point in buying 1 when I have this brand new work laptop.

How do I fix this so I can actually save and load a game?

IF you have Windows XP, the saved games should not be located "in the bin folder" of the HM&M 5 directory.

They MUST be located here :

C:\Documents and Settings\[PC user name]\MyDocuments\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\Profiles\Xallow\Saves.

If you have Vista, I don't know where the saved games should be located.

In what concerns Vista, I, also, would like to have the answer to where the saved games should be located. There has been a few tech-help questions on this forum concerning that, and I'm frustrated that I don't know what to answer ('cause I don't have Vista ... and I won't, anytime soon).

TO : Windows Vista users.

Q > WHERE MUST THE SAVE-GAME FILES BE LOCATED ?! PLEASE SPECIFY THE COMPULSORY PATH.

I have this EXACT thing going on. I'm running it in the new Parallels on a Mac but it's saving to the bin... etc file in the main folder.

The saves show up in the folder but not in the game.

I have noticed that there is a networked Z: drive which is actually where the My Documents folder is. However, I created a My Documents folder on the C drive where it should be and made the path, etc... all what it should be and it's still not working.
