You got the exact same problem I had.

And,thought my PC had all the wrong drivers (which happens to be very true, upgraded everything) and, guess what happened this very morning of today's date. Tried to clear up all that was as processing in RAM/Processor and, cut off access to the Internet of my PC and, bingo!, my installation went absolutely flawless.

Opened up the internet access again, downloaded both patches right onto my Desktop(auto. Iconed themselves) from the Download section of Ubi.com's web-site(North-American one-Canada).

Before installing both patches, closed the internet access again(CA's firewall's security function), then installed 1.1 and 1.2 immediately. Defragmented the whole Hard-Drive thoroughly(to make sure that all of the files installed were not fragmented in the subsequential installation of 2 following patches over the main progam's files of this marvelous game).

Put the main installation of the original game CD back into the CD Optical drive, it autolaunches itself, exit that autorun window, then clicked onto the main HoMM5 Icon of the Desktop. It launched itself even faster than on the 1.0's original's launch. The film plays even better and much faster than before. Then, came the main menu. Typed my player's name(not enough characters were allowed for very long names, unfortunately). I immediately saw the new Easy difficulty mode and, the most dearsome score chart of the Hall of Fame so awaited from so many hard core players such as myself.

Good Luck at repeating everything that I did this morning!!

note: Copying and pasting this article-like post into your main word-processor and, making a reminder/memo-like installation helping's sheet is highly recommended.

mine just keeps sayin there is this error ... and wants to send and error report its annoying me .. it won't work

I've followed the guide completely 4 times now and every time i get stuck on the black screen after installing the game.
It appears in the processes window as IKernel.exe
I got the european version.

I just tried unplugging all hardware except my mouse, keyboard and screen, removing my background picture and changing my screen resolution. Still black screen.

I found that this problem might be related with the IKernel file. It's placed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32 . Can someone confirm this?

I'm having the same issues. Cannot patch the game and the game freezes with the "black screen of death" after clicking the finish button. My question is what is UBI soft doing about this problem. I was able download and patch the games on a second older computer we are still working on the new one and alienware. A problem with this is that when I contacted UBI they acted as though they knew nothing about this and pretty much blew me off. Their support for this seems nil so far. Will we be able to install the expansion when it's released?

I have two problems with HOMMV, the first having to do with the patch...and the second being the fact that I cannot uninstall the game from my computer using normal means. When i run uninstaller, it goes through all the process and tells me that everything has been removed, when in fact nothing is.... -.-

I did as instructed till step 3, but is stuck as there doesn't seem to be a setup.ini file. I have:

data1 (winrar)
data1 (HDR)
layout (BIN)
setup (inx)
setup launcher
setup configuration settings
setup.ilg

thats it....

Is my unable-to-uninstall-problem due to the loss of my setup.ini file? If so, anything I could do??????

I can't even reinstall the game, whenever i launch HOMMV setup, either from the disc or whatever, it just goes through uninstallation. Even when I clicked the 'install' button on the autorun interface when the dvd first loads....

Ya, the dvd's icon says install, but the setup tries to uninstall the game when i click it...to no effect.

EDIT: BTW, I'm using EU version and the InstallShield Installation Information folder is {20071984-5EB1-4881-8EDB-082532ACEC6D}, just in case someone with EU version is looking ofr it.

and check if any of the keys "under" this key are related to heroes.
You can also use the ctrl+f (find) function to search for heroes.
Then try to reinstall, after deleting manualy the heroes folder from the hard drive.

Mr Gorgoh and to all HOMM5 helpful players PLEASE HELP ME ..Im almost desperate with my installation problem!
I bought a Europe dvd version of this game and tries to install it. Everything went well up to the 1.1 patch installation and noting that a 1.4 patch is a must i decided to look for it.
I found a file named UpgradeLauncher/Autopatcher utility inside the HOMM5\bin..I clicked it and then the 1.4 patch was downloaded..my joyful mood vanished when i found out that this Autopatcher downloaded the US 1.4 version and therefore is incompatible. In fact, when i tried to play the game the 1.1 version is still displayed in the GameMenu.I downloaded the europe 1.4 version from FileFront addressing the file towards C:Program Files\Ubisoft\HOMM5\bin which of course still contains the US 1.4 patch.(1st Question.Is it the right address for the file? 2nd.Do I need to delete the US patch?)
Lastly, I noticed that the crack folder still contains the HOMM5 game icon 1.1 version.I tried to copy/paste this to ProgramFiles\Ubisoft\HOMM5 but discontinued when it attempts to replace the 1.4 version game icon..
Finally,when the crack isnt copy/pasted to the above address the message "No CD/DVD-ROM found"appears.(By the way,I'm installing the game using two computers just like Groucheux did)

Uninstall everything.

Use Clean disk and delete everything Temporary Files. Use Defrag disk-analyze and highlight everyone of those fragmented files by keeping at pressing down the Shift key and, click the Defragment button.

Use the Control Panel within the Start menu. Then go to Add/Remove programs, search for Heroes of Might & Magic. If found, highlight it and use the remove button. Choose yes at the pop-up window asking for further removal of that program. After that, go back to the Start Menu and, do this:
Go to start-run.
Type regedit press enter.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft and delete any key related to heroes.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
and check if any of the keys "under" this key are related to heroes.

Once the installation is completed, go to Ubi.com, use the country selector for selecting United Kingdom. Click the Downloads sections' button. Then, highlight Patch 1.04 Eu(1.4)+ click on it to start the download(to your desktop preferably). Cut and, paste it in the C:Program Files\Ubisoft\HOMM5\BIN. Highlight the patch file and click the Open button(close all windows right away for making it launch). Once the installation is complete, go to Program Files ,Highlight Ubisoft and, drag towards your right until you see the sub-sub menu, Highlight Check for Updates and click the link. Now, it has downloaded the EU version of the next patch of 1.41(I hope). Clean Disk again and Defrag disk again also.

Try to launch it now...How did it go?

Im thankful for Patenaudeluc's advice but after a problem is solve another appears..After I installed the correct 1.41 EuropeAn patch, I still failed to play the game..the message "No CD/DVD room" reappears. I hypothesized that its the Crack of the 1.41 Europe version that must be downloaded and copy/pasted to C;ProgramFiles/Ubisoft/HOMM5/Bin...I confirmed it when I searched and found HOMM5 1.41 Europe patch Crack at Google...The problem is..the downloadable crack offered by this websites is "FOR SALE"with credit cards needed..Ouccchhh!!!
Is there any remedy for this Misery??Please HELP me!!Thank you So much..

Answer: The Expansion of Hammers of Fate v.2.0 is now a prerequisite for playing HoMM5 now. It gets to include all of the previous program files of HoMM5 + patches within v.2.0. Adding the patch 2.1 is also a must.
Why? Do not know at all. It just works that way, that's all I can possibly say as of now.

Well, then you have a serious problem. It must be a Ubi conspiracy that is only targeting you, as 1.41 works correctly for most other players around the world.
And it sure works for me...

However, seeing as jamindan07 doesn't seem to have bought H5, I admit that suggesting him to buy HoF is funny... Even if it is complete nonsense.

@jamindan07: If you bought H5, then you should have the original disc. Use it to launch the game. If you want to use a NoDVD crack, do it on your own, as nobody here should offer support for cracking the game protection.
