Strange problem here that I havent been able to find a solution to in an archive dive.

I installed the game and it opens just fine but when I try to load the first Campaign the windows dissapere after I select mission 1. It just shows the warrior fighting the demon in the background.

I can play the game just fine in the custom maps though I notice that the unit information window also seems to be missing, when I click on the unit info button in the charcater screen I again just get a blank screen with my hero standing on the left.

I saw one person with a similar problem get advised to made a new profile and try again, that didnt work for me.

Thanks in advance for any help
Glaive

I don't know if any of this will work, but Im a methodical trouble-shooter, so this is what I would do.

1. Uninstall the game.

2. Manually delete any folders that are left over from the installation path, and in your my documents folder connected to HoMMV.

3. Make sure your video and sound drivers are the most recent, or update them if they are not.

3.5 If you update drivers, reboot your computer.

4. Download and install CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ (Its free, ad-free and virus free ... I use it.)

4. Once it is installed open the program and run a registry cleaner. It will remove all old reg keys that may be causing issues with dlls or other drivers being linked or accessed, or mixed up install/CDROM Paths.(Its safe, used it for 3 years now and never had anything go wrong ever.)

5. Reboot your computer.

6. Defrag your hard-drive, either with the defrag that comes with windows or defragler. http://www.defraggler.com/ Same company that makes CCleaner.

7. Reboot your computer.

8. Reinstall the game, (and don't forget to update/patch the game to the max) but not in the default path, customize it by changing the location, or at least the folder name. (This will assure that it will not get mixed up with any old reg data that didn't get removed.)

9. Open the game and create a new profile with a name you haven't used before. (Same reasons as above)

10. Go into the options and turn all the video settings to the lowest possible.

11. Try and play, if it works, turn the video drivers back where you want them, and try again. If it works, all done, if not, at the very least you've identified your video drivers/settings as the culprit.
