Is there any consideration to setup the install image so that we can play without having to carry around the CD?

I would love to be able to play on my laptop without having to make sure I have the CD with me wherever I go.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The need for the CD at startup is only for one reason; piracy. It is simply to see if you have an original disk and therefore did buy the game instead of having downloaded it from p2p, or toren, or even simply got a copy from a friend who copied the game for you.

If game makers started to let go of the check for an (original CD) soon the sale of games would be down to one copy per game.

There are options to bypass the need for a CD, but you would be doing it on your own risk, and discussing those options is not allowed on this (Ubi owned) forum, so that's all I'm going to say about that. Happy

You forgot to mention that not only it is to keep piracy at bay, it is also to keep the large majority of animation files onto it as well. whisper

I guess that it is easier to transfer the animation data straight to the GPU/VPU of the video card's chipset while playing the game. It is Audio-Video media processing procedures, I would deduce. Besides, the main processor and math. co-processor are so busy processing all the program's various algorithms and formulaes + added scripts over it all as well. Big Grin

Let's not forget, HoMM5 is a very large game for a mere strategy game. Wink2

First of all, I am impressed that you got the game to work on your laptop! All I can say is do a google search on "Heroes 5 no DVD".

Except for the small fact that once the game boots you can take the cd out of the drive and the game will run perfectly fine until you quit.

Thats not the truth. Its to make it possible for a publisher to fast get a payback from the investment into developing the game. Nothing more nothing less.
There are still even research showing that piracy improves legit sales of the game. Wink

Aye, thats true. Its a big no no to spread things like this on these forums.
Permaban for spreading helping piracy here. And no-cd counts towards piracy even though I myself prefer CD-less too.

I JUST (yes, it's for my kid on this laptop) bought this GhostRecon, and by now - (how many years has it been since release date??) - it should have some patch to go so that I dun hv to sue UbiSoft for spoiling my DVDwriter when this game is played ...
Playing without CD is less costly on my DVD usage.

cheers !!
