Oh well, if this game refuses to work with the ATI 200M, I am really beginning to wonder if maybe Nvidia bribed Ubi/Nival. Even at the present new pc's are sold with 200M cards, desktops and laptops. I am very disappointed, I regret the fact that 3DO went bankrupt.

Oh well, back to Disciples 2 I guess, the Gold edition runs very smoothly, with also great grafix, more scenario's, an editor and many campaigns. (And has bigger maps Wink2 )

What a waste of 45 Euro's, while Disciples 2 was only 29...

Low

Ok to respond to all of you.
From what i see the ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series video card is a mobile video card.
This type of video cards are CLEARLY NOT supported by the game.
This can be read here:
http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=68292
and on the back of the game packaging.
I'm srry to say this is your own fault people and that you should have checked the specs 1st.
I don't usually take ubi's side but in this case i have to.
They have no reason to make the game work on this video card since its not supported.
Next time please read the specs correctly and you will be spared from this kind of problems.

MY PC is a HP Media Center Edition Pavilion 1330n. 3 Pci slots 1 PCI Xpress. Plus Radeon X200 integrated graphics Demonic

I'm just mad cos Its forcing me to get a new graphics card (best buy return policies suck so I can't return the game)

But I need a new graphics card ne wayz...

See, I'd rather spend 90$ on Heroes V and an X300 graphics card, then waste 50$ on a game that doesn't work.

Well i've learned my lesson years ago with integrated video cards.
Even if the mb + video card price is smaller there are issues like this one there that will make me never buy such horrors :|.
The good news for you is that the pci-e are video cards prices are droping very fast.

True, but why is it that the GeForce 5200 Go does run the game without probs? It also isn't on the supported video card list. I think Nival and or Ubi somehow dislike ATI or something. But...Oh well, never mind. Too bad about this game, bad customer support from Ubi. Thanks all for replying and posting.

I think each handles the pixel shader and the HW TNL differently.

Excactly why I haven't bought the game, yet. Can't they make the game support the card?

That's what I'm saying.. especially since it's not that the card cannot handle the load- if you alt+tab in and out of the game, it runs completely smoothly until you make it reload the environment (i.e. switching between map view and castle view), at which point it slows up again.
Sounds like some sort of bug to me, rather than an unsupported card.

They must have a VERY good marketing team, these squeezers <drips sarcasm> - while the rest of the world is going mobile with notebooks instead of desktops, these terminal halfwits won't support them - I suspect that takes a fairly healthy chunk OUT of their prospective market. I simply cannot believe that a chipset which plays something as graphics hungry as Oblivion can't run something which, in terms of generic RAM, VRAM, CPU requirements, shouldn't really trouble it. I used to have a saying - "as cold as me mother in laws heart" - pigs arse - "as cold as UBISOFT's heart" if they don't try and sort something for notebook owners. Sooo ... if anyone is ACTUALLY thinking about it ... youse need to have a crack at patching this thing so notebook owners will actually get off their bums and buy this thing instead of moaning to youse on this forum that youse don't seem to be all that worried about. THEN ... these disgruntled notebook owners might even consider buying DARK MESSIAH or something which NOT VERY LIKELY IF WE CAN'T PLAY THIS GAME ... is it?? <smiles sweetly>
Sooo .. hwy are you still looking at the screen?? Get on it!! Patch it!!! Fix it!!! Go!!!

Sounds more like the whole thing slowing down when it`s asked to do more than it can cope with, the environment is MUCH more demanding than castle view as far as the graphics are concerned, the card obviously can`t handle the load.

I should imagine the only way would be a special "detuned" version for laptops, but I very much doubt if they would bother writing one.
What you would end up with would be more like Heroes 4 in terms of graphics Angry Blue Guy

With luck it should be fully debugged and patched by then, if it`s any consolation to you, my laptop won`t run it either, not enough video memory.

That's wrong. As I have been running games that are way more graphically intensive and demanding on the Radeon Xpress 200M. Games such as The Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars, and Dreamfall. Granted that these aren't run on the best settings and there is some slow down, but they are still highly playable unlike this travesty.

I play games on my laptop that aren`t officially supported too, but they aren`t Heroes V and just because a graphics chip in a laptop can run one game is no guarantee that it will run another.
The Ati chip in question is not supported,
quote:
*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release
NVIDIA® GeForce" 3/4/FX/6 families (GeForce 4 MX NOT supported)
ATI® Radeon® 8500/9000/X families Matrox Parhelia"

Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported.

These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.

Whether an unsupported chip works on a game is pretty much a bonus if it does, but it isn`t a cause for complaint if it doesn`t.

I don't care whether it is supported or not. I was simply responding to the statement that the card couldn't handle the load, when it obviously can (as evidenced by much more intensive games running fine on it). It simply isn't supported because the devs just don't want to support it. I guess I'm just an idiot for not reading all of the tiny hard to read print on the back of the package. Thanks for the quote.
