The neverending discussion about the shared mem on the Xpress 200.. *sigh* It has 128MB dedicated memory with the OPTION to leech more from the RAM in the BIOS. It does not share all Ãts memory with the RAM in the system. Other guys are right in this thread: the card may be a poor performer on high shader dependent games, but almost all new games can be configured correctly (for example turning down shaders) to run very decently on this card. Why HoMM V doesn't it a big mystery.

Agreed, HoMMV is the only game I have problems with. A friend of mine has a GeForce 5200 GO (also 128 dedicated mem, same as my M200) and even a slower processor, also 512 MB RAM and he can play the game smoothly without probs at all. Sure hope Nival and/or UbiSoft patch this card, they have to imho. Regards, Low

It seems to me that this game is configured to run on only ONE selected system. It's as if it were tested on only one configuration of one system only. I have tried to play this game on 3 different computers, all of which meet or greatly exceed the requirements and haven't been able to play it on any of them! I paid $50 for this game and feel like I was scammed!

I've tried it with Celeron, Turion and regular AMD CPU with the M200 chipset and it still won't run any quicker. So, instead of using my previous laptop I went and bought a new laptop (bad reason for the ONLY game I play) with a GeForce Go7400. This laptop can play the game well but not fluidly as you can see the animations are jerky. Still, much better than the M200's performace of 5fps, sigh.
I agree with many of you that it's the games fault and not the gpu. Even on my new laptop changing the video settings from LOW to HIGHEST has literally NO impact on anything at all. My fps stays the same, image stays the same, animation jerkiness stays the same. So now I'm left pondering what the settings are actually changing as I don't see any performance or visual improvements whatsoever. I didn't turn on anti-laising and such due to the fact the animation is already jerky.
In any case, I think I'm letting all these forum bugs affect my perception of the game. I'm seriously thinking of returning the laptop and shelving the game to collect dust. It's the only game I play and so far I'm only happy with the move to 3D. I'm still happy and willing to play Hereos3 and it runs great on the M200 chipset, obviously.
Still, it is better than Hereos4 *shivers-the HORROR!!!!!*

It's not just the laptops having problems. I have a radeon xpress 200 for desktops, and I can't run the game either. The tech guy keeps say to update the drivers, but, the computer itself is only one month old, and I DID update the driver just two days ago- doesn't make one bit of difference. The game looks and runs awful.

I have that problem too. Game is running on the same speed on "very low" and "very high". I have Asus A6R-B002H (Celeron M @ 1.6 GHz, RAM DDR 2 896 MB @ 533 MHz, ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M) so game should work perfectly, but it doesn't. Does Ubi will affect that fact ?? I think there is a lot of HOMM fans that have the same problem as I. Ubi should release a path that will fix our problem.

I just picked up the HOMM V collectors edition expecting it to run as well as every other current game I run on this AMD Turion 2.2 ghz - 1024 RAM and ATI Radeon Express 200M 128 MB video card --> drivers updated two weeks ago.
Same deal as the rest of you all: the frame rate is so choppy the game is unplayable, even on the lowest resolution and effects settings. I hope Ubi/devs are listening - this kind of support is not a good way to resurrect a beloved franchise. Please patch this!

Welcome to the boat Awgryn...With no responses from anybody connected to ubi since release, I think your better off using the disc as a clay pigeon... p. s. in case you dont know they ****** up on the heroes iii cd too...you have to add a Games folder in in the main folder to save anything (just some fyi...)

I have the same trouble when running this game on my Toshiba M70(1.6GHZ, 1GB DDR2 RAM) with XPress 200M(128MB) laptop. I got the holy **** lagging. The FPS lets me think it is running on a Pentium 3 with a ancient 2D video card. As I know, it runs Half Life 2 and DDO very smoothly. WHat is wrong with this game? I have to doubte the develpers intended to say "NO" to laptop with ATI with some unknown purposes. I tried to return this game to futureshop. BUt I am asked to read the requirements carefully and refuse to give me money back for a opened game package. "YES. I have read it very carefully and confused by "Laptop may work but NOT support!!" I am heavily pissed off by lossing 65 CAD for nothing.

I am not going to "beg" the UBI to update their program for supporting such a common popular card, bec I paid the money and it is their responsiblity. My suggestion here is: Why dont you show it on box clearly "Attention! Definiately this game is not for 2D vedio card AND ATI XPRESS 200M users!!"

It basically does say that though on the back of the box: "Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported." but it also says: "Additional chipsets may be supported after release." so your best bet is upcoming patchs (obviously)

Well, just posting to get it on the first page again while the patch (1.1) doesn't fix the problem of the M200 card.
In the readme it says that the patch patches most unsupported cards. Probably only the GeForce ones. I think they really need to set a priority to Ati cards, especially the M200 because even at present new pc's (laptops AND desktops) are still supplied with these cards.
Hope the next patch finally will fix this problem.
Regards,
Low
