I used to run this game fine on my Nvidia GS7800 and Windows XP. Now, I am running a far better system, an EVGA GTX 8800 and Windows Vista...and well, see for yourself.



I have DX9.0c and DX10 - all drivers current as of last night....any suggestions?

Also for the record I have tried it in XP Compatability mode, no dice. A wierd thing is that when I change a graphics setting, like turning Anti Aliasing on for instance, the game becomes pretty again for a split second, then if i rotate the camera at all it goes back to being ugly.

I'm having this same issue. I also run an NVIDIA 8800 GTX on Vista. I have a very similar DXDIAG as RDMorpheus.

I refuse to download "Heroes Tweak" as it sounds nefarious.

I also refuse to buy Tribes of the East unless I can get this issue resolved (It occurs with both HoF and the Tribes of the East Demo).

The heroes tweaker was just a program that gave you a visual interface for modifying the config files.

Anything you could do with it you can do manually by editing the user.cfg files in your profile.

That said, I don't know how to set the 'nvidia drivers' compatibility setting.

The tweaker was available on maps4heroes but I can no longer find it there.

I'll take a look at that user.cfg file and see if I can figure it out. If I do, I'll post the solution.

The original profile = 0, so change it to = 1.

That "enables nvidia older drivers".

That was for HV original, I didn't check HoF but I bet it's the same line. Will someone let me know if it works?

Same exact problem, just like that screenshot, and happens in the same way.

Except for vanilla HommV, the UK version, it works fine, w/out tweaking. So it only affects Hammers of Fate (u.s. version), and the Tribes of the East demo (fileplanet version). For me at least. I have the u.k. version of vanilla HOMMV becase i ordered it through gogamer and that's what they gave me.

I tried the tweak mentioned above, no go. I tried copying and pasting the gfx sections of the config file from my working vanilla HommV, and that made it so the inital cutsenes looked good and that it started up looking good, but again, the moment I do anything, like enter a town or start a battle, back to crappy it goes.

I also tried setting the cfg file to read only, incase the game was for some reason changing the settings, but that had no effect.

Run in compatibility mode, no go. Run w/out it, no go.

Hammers of fate used to run fine in win2k on my older machine.

Ill buy tribes of the east if I can get this fixed, otherwise not, I just can't play it if it looks so crappy while knowing that it should look so much better. I always have age of wonders and aow2:shadow magic to play while I wait for ubi to fix this.

I run windows vista, 4 gigs of ram, geforce 8800 GTS. DX10, but I also installed the dx from the hammers of fate disc in order to get them to run on vista in the first place. Latest nvidia drivers.

I love the series so I'm hopin' this'll get fixed so I can continue to play it.

Still no go after using the tool. Hammers of Fate (u.s. version) and tribes of the east (fileplanet version) still revert to low level setting after I do anything in the game. Only HOMMV vanilla is not affected, perhaps because it is the U.K. version. Me sad.

I started having the same problem once I upgraded from 7800GT to 8800GT with latest NVIDIA drivers. This is freakin annoying... Anyone has any solution?

I have a suggestion, not sure if it works for all of you guys: keep on playing while the texture goes like this, and wait for several mins, do regular works, say, building the town, fight etc. the texture goes back great after about 15 mins on my machine. hope this information will help.

I found this when I rapidly changing the resolution etc. I found sometimes it goes right when enter a town, so, try this way, and good luck.

I have this exact same problem with the "Gold Edition" (which includes HoF and ToE).

I have an 8800 GTX video card and have Vista as my OS. I have been able to use the Tweaker to fix vanilla HOMM V, but cannot seem to make it work for HoF or ToE. I've tried to manually edit the *.cfg files but that did not seem to work either.

Anyone got a workaround?
