Ok i've noticed they modified the specs for the game and here they are (by modifing i'm talking about the no-compatiblity part).

Supported OS: Windowsâ® 2000/XP (only)
Processor: Pentiumâ® 4 or AMD AthlonTM 1.5 GHz (Pentiumâ® 4 2.4 GHz recommended)
RAM: 512 MB (1 GB recommended)
Video Card: DirectXâ® 9 compliant w/ 64MB RAM (128 MB recommended)
Sound Card: DirectXâ® 9 compliant
DirectX Version: DirectXâ® 9 or higher (included on disc)
CD-ROM: 12X CD-Rom or better
Hard Drive Space: 2+ GB
Multiplay: Broadband internet connection

*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release
NVIDIAâ® GeForce" 3/4/FX/6 families (GeForce 4 MX NOT supported)
ATIâ® Radeonâ® 8500/9000/X families Matrox Parhelia"

Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported.

These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game. Additional chipsets may be supported after release. For an up-to-date list of supported chipsets, video cards, and operating systems, please visit the FAQ for this game on our support website at: http://support.ubi.com.

(can be also found here: http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=68292 ).

So to sumarize what's written there.
The game will have problems running or will not run on:
- All integrated video cards that are Intel and don't have a nvidia or a ati chipstet.
- All laptop video cards that also don't have nvidia or ati chipset.
- Gf 4 mx (there are several models).

To all who have problems and have the specs.
Possible solutions when game crashes at start.
1. Check you service pack. You can do so by pressing the win key + pause break. On the first screen will be written windows service pack x. If it's only windows it means you don't have any service pack. The setvice pack only solves some problems and may not have the same results on diffent cofiguration.Download sp 2 here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-XP-SP2-RTM.shtml

2. Make sure you have the latest drivers.
This means for video (www.nvidia.com/www.ati.com or also the NGO Drivers www.ngohq.com) for you mother board (from the manufacturer or if you have a via chipset you can find them on www.viaarena.com or for intel chipset www.intel.com) and the sound card. (If it's integrated it should be on the manufacturer of the mother board website if not you have to go your sound card specific webstite (creative, etc).

3. Make sure you have the directx 9.0c april.
This can be found here for those with issues with the demo:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Dir...edistributable.shtml
I think/hope/am sure Big Grin (the game doesn't ship without the dx9.0c it requires, but you never know :shady ) it will be in the package Heroes V comes in (on the disk).

As they say these chipsets are suported now and more will be after the shipment (via patches probably).
What strikes me it's the lack of suport for the nvidia 7000+ series and i've seen several compaints with these types of video cards (like 7600 and such). I think all problems with video cards that meet the specs but will not run the game will be patched in the near future.
Posting here your dxdiag will help.

Quick guide to post dx diag(READ ALL).
1. Go to start - run and type dxdiag and press enter.
2. Wait for bar to fill up and click on the "Save all information" button.
3. Save the file on desktop.
4. Close dxdiag and enter the dxdiag file on desktop.
5. Copy all text to the Sound Capture Devices and paste it here on this thread.

Also with you dxdiag post what kind of issues you have. Game crashes on start, has strange graphics, crashes at load bar, etc.

By posting your dxdiag you will help the devs solve all graphic card related problems.

I'm sorry for all with 4mx and such but i think the graphics Heroes V has deserves a 6600 at least to fully experience the game and play it to full instensity.
The only way the game can run on not yet supported video cards or video cards that are suported but still have issues is the 3d analyzer ( Located here: http://www.3dcenter.org/downloads/3d-analyze.php )(Try emulating the Pixel Shader and the TNL caps ). The program is experimental and may sometimes not work.

For those who have problems in game(Random crashes):
1.Enter the game create a profile and exit.
2.Go to My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\"profile_name"\ and edit the user.cfg with these settings:
setvar gfx_texture_mip = 1 (original 2).
setvar gfx_fullscreen = 0 (original 1).
setvar gfx_resolution = 800x600 (this depends on your monitor and your video card, i think it must not match the desktop resolution).

For people using ANY KIND OF VIDEO CARD THAT IS UNDER SPECS (that means the game runs but crashes while loading a scenario) there is a modfied exe that may make the game run for you. Read here:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804/m/3951062544
All credits go out to dentist_1.
Also here quick how-to:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804/m/7911030844

For people with the game freezing after displaying the logo:
Download this file:
http://rapidshare.de/files/21217344/Profiles.rar.html
Unpack it to your My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles. If those dirs aren't there create them.
It's my profile set at 1024*768 with lowest, no aa, no af, no shadows.
So use it to start the game. After that you can create yourself a profile. (DONT USE MINE IT'S MY NAME!!! Razz (just joking Big Grin )).

For people with audio problems try this:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804/m/5441037544
All credist go out to kvark_.

For people having problem with the game blocking at startup.
Move the file named SI.bin out of the directory bin.
Thx to all who posted this solution.

For people having problems with securom errors (like 7000) try this:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804...971032444#5971032444

For people having problems with uninstalling/installing/reinstalling the game (when you press install the uninstall apears).
Go to start-> run.
Run regedit.
Go to this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Locate the key with the heroes information. (in the keys under this key it should be) If you can't located it go to that key and press f3 and type heroes. You should find it.
Delete the key you found.

For people having problems with game not starting due to granny2.dll or just cause an error pops up and also they manage to see the first screen with the image try this:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4611096804...251078544#3251078544
First back up your granny2.dll (copy it to another folder).
Download the dll from there and replace it with the one in your bin folder.
Hope this will help and also they will release patches for people with problems.

Another fix may be this: (for people having problem with the game crashing with the logo, on the bmp, before starting the game, etc)
Press the win key + pause break(same thing as right clicking on the my computer and going to properties).
Go to advanced tab and press on the fist of the 3 settins buttons (Performance).
There go to the Data Execution Prevention and click on the second option.(turn on except programs i select)
Add Heroes5 to the list.(you have to browse to your game exe located in the bin directory of the Heroes5 folder)
Credits to enderv for his ideea.

For people having issues with HEROES 3(III). If you can't save the game go to your homm3 dir and create a Games folder so it looks like \homm3dir\Games

All people should install the new patch:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1851065692/m/5651041154
Something from the text!!!
- The game works with onboard video and some of the older video cards now

People that have the modified exe will have issues.

For people getting the "Failed to set display mode" error:
1. In bios make sure the agp aperture size is bigger then the ram of your video card.
2. Press winkey+pause break and go to advanced click on the 1st settings button (performance) and go to advanced and make sure both are set to programs.

Alderbranch if you can sticky this i'd be gratefull Big Grin.
10x alder Smile.

People btw when trying to run the game(or connect to ubi.com) DISABLE ALL FIREWALLS,ANTI-VIRUSES OR ANY KIND OF PROTECTIONS !!! Then you can enable them back but first try to see if they change anything.

Can we assume that laptop video cards that are working with the demo will continue to work in the retail version?

Thanks. I noted on the retail box that it said the game could have problems with some DVD-RW drives. Do you know if this is true, or are UBI just covering their butts?

I think it's due to the copy protection. Anyhow any game has problems running on some dvd-rw cause that's the way of cd's. It depends on the brand. Some are just incompatible. Anyway these cases of incompatibility are rare.

Hi

So the pixel shader is still required in the full version. Too bad for me. Having a Radeon 7500 graphics card I will not be able to run the game...

Dendroid_Arch try updating you monitor drivers to the model you have and also try downloading the (Ati)ngo drivers from www.ngohq.com

I have no crash nor error message, but the game won't start.
The install worked like a charm.

The load of the machine increased to 18% then went down. That's all. No DVD turning. No memory eaten.

The beta and the demo worked.

Guys plz if you can edit you post with dxdiags from where this part is:
---------------------
Sound Capture Devices
---------------------

to the end (delete the info after that part it's not needed).
Hierulf1969 you installed any antiviruses, drivers, programs (framework for example) firewalls since you got the demo?

Sal_461 srry your video card is under specs and will not run the game. Try the exe in the link i provided for people with mx.
And also please edit your post and delete the part from
---------------------
Sound Capture Devices
---------------------
to the end (delete that part).
I plead others that posted dxdiags here do the same.
