I went to the manufacturer of my motherboard (Intel) and downloaded the most up to date BIOS they had for my board, for free. Anyway, they specifically recommend that you do not update the BIOS unless you know you are solving a particular problem addressed by the update.

Do I really have to pay these guys $30??? Driveragent says my sound card driver needs an update, but I've gone to the manufacturer, Creative, website and the card is at "End of Service Life" with no newer driver available. Driveragent says my video card driver needs an update, but I've updated within the last month. So do you think the difference between a May driver version and a June driver version is why the game won't load?

Oops, I should say that both the card and the monitor support up to 2048 x 1536, 32-bit. Wow, I just tried that setting and things on screen are so TINY! Not meant for a 19-inch monitor, I guess.

Your O.S., your video card and, your newest Sound Card + Sound System will require the already existing RAM of 1Gb. Therefore, 0Mb is, right now, available for any games you want to load up and play.

In the mean time, just put your resolution of both your Video Card and Monitor to the 1280x1024 (32bit) (60Hz) settings, OK. Besides, that is the best and maximum resolution HoMM5 can possibly handle(at this time, so far).
And, you will see your desktop's Icons and the writing a lot better anyway(will not ruin your precious eyesight in the process, also).

Once you install these new components, now, you can send a thorough analysis of your PCs configuration to esupport.com via the Bios Agent Analysis(scanner) utility app. tool.

lol everyone seems to want to upgrade your comp zerb but that isn't the freakin answer.

I too was getting this error and was running the game fine 1.6 but then all of a sudden on the flash screen I got a db error. I closed the error and the game ran fine...until i played multi-player map. Then I figured out if I can play the missions and not the maps I had messed up the directory files with my map upgrades


so in other words all I had to do was delete the maps directory and the game ran fine... I guess I should be more carefule about which maps to include and what folders they dump into my HOMM folders.

now game run smoothly and doesn't crash and the default maps and campaigns run fine on a setup similar to yours.

long story short i had the problem where my install wouldnt load at all...

i went into the ""C:\games\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\data"" folder and renamed the "index.bin"

game runs just fine now.
