Same aircraft, five stages of conversion to 'The Dark Side'............

(Two versions of the last as there are differing accounts)

That cross was a pig to do, think I just about nailed it though, only took three days on and off

While I'm waiting and hoping for more RONNCO A6M's, I've been doing some skins of a different kind. Anyone who is familiar with the Il-2 cockpit will agree that it needs a facelift. A worthy subject though. After all, if it wasn't for the Cementer we wouldn't have this sim at all. Smile

Early days yet, but the details are coming along nicely.

Feathered, I've always been a fan of your work on Russian cockpits. The IL-2 is in dire need of an update, for this is the original cockpit for this game from conception. I don't know if you've seen any real IL-2 videos, but apparently the cockpits of the real thing had horrible build quality and looked very shabby, even when brand new. There were gross mismatches of seams, blobbed on paint, protruding nuts and bolts, some instruments recessed too far deep inside the panel, you get the idea. In short, they appeared as though they were thrown together in short time - which they probably were, considering that "bread and air" comment from Stalin.

Looking forward to this one! Thumbs Up

I'm certainly not Canon, but I have 3 skinpacks of 506th FG 'Stangs over at Mission4Today, plus generics for the 15th FG. I have some more unpublished (and even more unfinished Shady ) skins for the 15th and 21st if you're really interested in them.

Knocking all the new neo-skinners is not the way to promote skinning. This thread has done more to hurt skinning than is has done to help it.

Good work as always you established artists, but at what cost?

Bad form.

Willi,
I have to disagree with you on that one: its stopped the spam of crappy rushed jobs coming from a certain member whilst brining together several of the "greats" - both of which I would call a win win!

I can see that new skinners may potentially be afraid of posting their skins, however I think this would encourage them to improve a skin before hand than release shoody rush jobs straight away.
So really its all swings and roundabouts.

Valantine,

Thank you for the civil response. I appreciate it. So it's similar to tough love? Heh, well, I simply think that there would have been a better, more hospitable, thoughtful way of helping those who were disturbing the more mature members of the Paint Schemes Forum.

Willi, several people have tried to help, both here and on other forums. However, not a lot of the advice offered seemed to be getting taken. I can see how that would irritate some people, especially some of the skinners that put a lot of effort into and take pride in their work.
I really don't do that much skinning any more, but I will continue to try helping anyone that asks.

(TBH, I was shocked that CanonUK still lurks here at all.)
