In Gimp, when I'm saving a final skin to a bmp, I don't see an option for 8bits. The smallest seems to be 16bits. The file needs to be 1.0Mb for Il-2 to recognize it.
What I do is load the file into IrfanView, which lets me decrease the color depth to 256 Colors. Is there any way to decrease the color depth to 256 in Gimp? There is in older versions (2.2 and earlier), but I've always found the best results by saving as a 24-bit bmp and running the skin through Bright, which usually does a much better job or reducing to 8-bit color.

Although I'm new to any kind of skinning, I have heard of Bright.
I did a Google search and it only gave me one link for it. I downloaded it but I don't know what to do with it. There are only two files....a batch file and an Application file. I also downloaded Bright 1.83 from Mission4Today. That just came with one Application file. I'm totally lost. Aviar This message has been edited. DL this: Batchfile for Bright
Put the 24 bit folder in your PaintSchemes/Skins/whatever plane folder Open your skin in GIMP and choose Image/Mode/RGB When done close and Save. It will be 3MB. Drag the skin into the 24 bit folder and click Bright.bat It will convert it to 1MB. Put it back into the ac Skins folder. Done. |
