I use Gimp 2 to modify aircraft templates for IL-2. How do I install them onto IL-2? I've tried to save the files as bmp's, but they won't convert. Any tips?

you need to convert them back to a 256 colour bmp, use a free programme called Bright to do this...

Also change its name or you will overight the game ones if you are working on the ones in the folders....... other problem you may have is you have left a gap in the name, like
spitfire mk21.bmp
needs to be spitfiremk21.bmp
