Hey all, long time no see eh? Ive been on a bit of a roller coaster, y'know, new girlfriend, did stuff bonked her stupid then downhill slalom to a stilletto in the eye...it happens, anyway Ive been having a dabble with that other girlfriend, the P51, ..After seeing Photo Real textures for Birdies in FS2004, I wondered to me daft self if the same technique could be applied to IL2 & bugger me, after a bit of jiggery pokery ....RESULT!
heres a couple of Prelims of the fuselage at present, say what ya think people, is it worth pursuing? There are also Photoreal Camo/Non polished/Oxidised versions on the horizon, have to see how it goes I think Comments, critique, banter, bafoonery & chit chat welcome Regards It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them. |

Neat! With perfect settings, this should be a very good starting point for some spectacular screen-shot aircraft art!

Absolutely Blidingly Brilliant F_B_S, please (if you decide to, that is...) make the skin or a backround texture/layer psd/xcf available.
It would make a great base for a Air Racing P51 skin! 13 out of 10 score |

Nice
Matter of fact I thought it was FSX at first The reflection may look like it was taken from a P 51 on the ground (to me,) but I do not think that would degrade the experience enough to make it unappealing Nice work there mate! Looks very promising -------------------------- |

Looks like a good start to me. Just be sure and remember to not do it on the wings (except the ailerons and flaps) and rudder (which is fabric).
I would think other good candidates for this treatment would include the B-25 and P-38. |

Like I told you back in Screenshotworld.com,
I don´t like this at all.... AH! I LOVE IT! Nice and shiney. I can even see my face reflection on it! Bring on the beer and the ballerinas , we gotta celebrate this great ART mate! |

Hello Gents, seems like a resounding thumbs up for the pretty P51
I will finish this, releasing a marked & a blank version, it will be released over at Screenshot World, I'll post an update and link when the prototype is finished I wont be returning to skinning on a regular basis so its going to be one of very few skins I'll do when the blue moon shines The main reason for my posting this here at Ubi was really just to share the idea (previously used in FS2004 & FSX) & that it can be applied in IL2 with considerable effect & without the use of FS Series Pain in the ring Alpha Channels & by showing an example perhaps more of the skinners within the community mite take up the Photo Real aspect & explore the possibilites ? Regards to all It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them. |

Fantastic work FBS!
Found this link, thought it might help: fficial%26hs%3DQVF%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1" target="_blank">http://images.google.co.uk/img...VF%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 Notice the two panels immediately around the exhausts; they're made of stainless steel IIRC, and in some shots seem to reflect the light differently but in others look like the rest of the plane. Wierd huh? Keep us updated, I want this when it's done! Keep well bud! Tom Flying online with virtual RAF 234 Sqn 'Black Dragons' as: |

Hey all, cheers for the feedback on this, just a lil update on progress, its near finished would you believe? Hehe, Just messing with the vertical and lil bits n bobs, cheers for the pointer & link Tom, appreciated, will see about altering the look of the area you mention.
Also, news flash for skinner types and being as how Razor mentions it, Ive decided to release PSD & PSP layer sets with the textures used to create this Photo Real 51, anyone who has one of my P51 Templates (or any other for that matter, but Preferably mine @ Jarink, hey bud, Ive made an almost photo Real Super detail Polished/oxidised P38, I think youve seen it? cant do another one, the one I did took months & it made my eyes bleed, drop me a line, I'll send you a copy the beta Template if you wanna have a play with it... Regards It is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them. |

Hi Darren, man, it's good to see you at work again. Sad to hear it's only when the Blue Moon is shining, but I'll take what I can get!
The P-51 is amazing I have to say, and the shine is exactly the effect I think you have hoped to achieve...shiny polished metal as good as can possibly be created in an ageing game engine, it looks brilliant! Please let me know when you have a link for download, I certainly am interested. Can we have the P-47 next Cheers, MP |

Darren- How are you getting around the maximum/minimal pixel problem, I noticed how sharp the detail is on the gas cap, so abviously using "photo detail" gives better clarity. Or, have I just been doing it wrong all along?
|
||||
|
@Mystic:Hey hey
@wgvette: Hi mate,I'm not sure I know what u mean Max/Min pixel problem, thats a new one on me?? Please explain? Also the 'Gas Caps' (Same on Wings) arent part of the photoreal textures, the gas cap was made by myself in Photoshop & is part of the P51 template I released some time ago...the photoreal textures are the metal effect only everything else is on my P51 template. What problems are you experiencing with clarity? Ive never had or come across any clarity problems as far as skining for IL2 is concerned? BTW what is your game display set at, Good/Excellent/Perfect? the pics above were taken with game sets at Excellent..
