Hi gentlemen, I wonder if anyone out there would be interested in creating a skin of the Spitfire (I am led to believe a VB) flown by Geoffrey Wellum DFC, the author of 'First Light'.

Now I am attaching various links to pictures of his plane, most of which are during 1940-41, so it is probably impossible to make an historically accurate one of the 1940 planes.

However of most interest is the one pictured taking off from the carrier Furious, a flight which he led to Luqa, Malta as part of Operation Pedestal.

The camo can be seen in the image, the flight was all painted in Desert Camo, but after reading his book he indicates the serial number on the side (no letters) was EP465. From reading the book it isn't made clear which model it is, but it is hinted at being a VB.

So, to any of you great skinners, could or would anyone be able to create particularly the desert camo spit, and maybe, but not as importantly, a standard ETO camo version of his plane while at 65 Squadron at Debden where he was Flight Commander.

I have attached the links below for reference, the first one has lots of Wellum's planes, including further down the page, the Malta Spit with Furious behind.

Thanks for any help, cheers, MP.

The planes Wellum flew in 1940 seems to have been Spitfire I or II. The malta picture seems to show a Vc.

I am working nights till Monday (16th) but I will do QJ-K or G for you next week mate.

EP465 was indeed a MkVc, do you have any idea on the Vb code?

Did the Vc some time ago http://www.flying-legends.net/php/downloads/download.php?id=773 (I think its bloody awfull now so I will re-do that as well)

Also, if you want QJ-K for a screen shot I can add the MkI lines (already on the template) and you can brush out the cannon.

Looks like this after 'brushing'

Had a quick go at the Vb ('G' needs sorting a tad)

Also did it on the Seafire, shows wgat we could have without the terrible warping and twists.

No, no, I stand corrected, I was just assuming from the book, as it didn't mention the Vb on the carrier, but that was the plane he talked about flying before he shipped out.

So, I go with those who know that the plane was the Vc.

So, the Desert Camo Malta Vc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advice, and looking forward to the skins.

As for the screen grab and erasing the cannons, nice tip, cheers, MP.

Hi All,

Love the images, very impressive. I'm just wondering what type of roundels Spitfire EP465 would have had on the fuselage - the painting "Spitfires - Malta Bound" shows Type A1, but from what I can find out, newly-delivered aircraft by 1942 would have been wearing Type C1 (ie thin white and yellow rings). I'm building a large-scale model of this exact aircraft, and I don't want to get it wrong! Any advice would be gratefully received - many thanks in advance!

Thought I'd bump this back up, after seeing the Wellum skin had been 'made good' Wink

Kris, can I join the PM list f those who recieve the skin please?

BTW did you ever do the Malts skin shown in the above links?

Got to say the skin looks like it was worth the wait!

Thanks, MP.

BTW, check your PM's.

Completed (at last) the video for the museum which contains your Hurricane skin pack.

There's a link for you to download it (82mb Xvid codec), cheers, MP.

The Seafire version was uploaded in a three skin pack, Vb, Seafire and Vc last year mate.

http://www.flying-legends.net/php/downloads/download.php?id=5806

Or are you after the newer ones on the Seafire?

Hi Kris, seriously never saw the release of these, so just got them, thanks for the effort.

What is the difference between this and the new pack (apart from 1 plane!)?

Secondly, and I know it's an imposition, have you had a chance to look at the images of the Spifire in the Museum?

The job you did on the Hurricane has obviously paid off as they love the film and want to use it for display.

I would like to do the same for their Spitfire if possible (need 4 paintjobs again) like you did for the Hurri.

Again I realise life is something that gets in the way of IL2 Frown Wink but is there a chance of creating the same type of weathered Spitfire squad as you did with the fantastic looking Hurricanes?

Thanks again m8, cheers, MP.

I will/have changed the weathering some and also there will be both A and B schemes aircraft, also planning to do them with a range of wearing, from the nearly new to nearly scrapped.
Much as I keep opening the templates I just need to find the enthusiasm really.

As for the Spits in the museum, can you send the pics again mate, I have a new PC and lost lots of stuff in the 'cross over' Tongue
More over, if you are making a film, would you want them on the Seafire for 'perfect' codes etc?

Hi Kris. Thanks, I'll PM the download link to spitfire pix.

As far as Seafire is concerned, the video will be on display in the Museum, will anyone notice (obvious) differences between Seafire and Mk IX Spitfire?

I'll leave the choice in the hand of the expert (that's you then!).

I'll also wait (if that's OK) for the updated Wellum pack. Man how do I say how much your efforts and skill are appreciated?

Kris...errr..well...your efforts and skill really are appreciated!

PM you later, cheers, MP.
