Lost all the data (templates, books, progs etc) through a stupid mistake by myself from my back up HD after installing Win 7 on my main.

Over 30gb of template, same in books, so I have decided to stop skinning now as I just cannot be bothered to start trawling through shed loads of sites etc and hundreds of hours of altering to suit.

Sorry to all those I had said I would do work for but its ended now. Sad

I'm sorry to hear that...I can help with pdf books and few psd files, for example I can give you my list of books in "Whereisit" catalog format and you can tell me what you need and I can upload that to my ftp until you download it.

Sorry to hear that mate, it sucks you've lost all your skinning stuff - Hope you didn't lose any invaluable personal photos or the like.
You may be able to use a disc recovery program to get a large chunk back, there are a fair few freeware ones around that do a decent job of recovering files even after a format.

Kristorf, this is a bummer, really.

As a big fan, I have collected just about everything you've ever produced. I imagine at some point, you would like copies of your released works, at minimum.

So I would be delighted to send all of these back to you when you are ready. They are all organized... All I have to do is create a CD or two, or three, or four... Then ship off to merry ole...

It's the least we can do for you, considering all you have done for us. Let me know.

Been through that, even if not on such a large scale....

What can I say? Seeing the talent, the effort and the dedication you've been putting in your work, I can only regret that it all happened.

Il2 is close to its end anyway. Forget skining for a while, you'll be back with fresher ideas when the new sim will be out. We all will have to restart more or less from scratch then.

As for the PDFs, I think that you can count on the support of the community. Let's make a mailing list "rebulding Kris' library". I'm confident that we'll restore a good part of it. Wink2
Carry on mate!

That SUCKS big time mate Frown

I have also "retired" from skinning as well, decided to give it a rest until SOW comes along when I'm sure all the Skinners will get a new lease of life with the news toys Smile

Your work won't be forgotten mate, chin up and have fun with the game for a while - re-charge the batteries so to speak.

Sorry for the loss of all that work, it happened to me before but as stated not on such a large scale.

Not a chance of giving up Kristorf!

You are the best skinner and my favorite in my opinion!

So, your wimpy computer gives up...that means you do to?

I say, you have skill, you should use it, and I hope to see more skins from you.

Salute!

He's LYING.

He didnt want to agitate any of you but he really dislikes skinning and is so burnt out by it that the mere smell of a template makes him vomit.

This is his polite way of telling everyone that he doesnt want to do this anymore.

That really bites, Chris. Crying
This is why I have about 5 copies of my stuff.

1. "Master" copy on my second hard drive (I like keeping all my data on a second drive to make OS upgrades/reloads easier/safer. I even redirect my Windows user profile to that drive.)

2-3. Copy of WIP stuff on a couple of USB drives. (used to take to work and update #4)

4. Copy of WIP + about 75% of the "Master" stuff on my work PC. (I'm in IT, so I know how to break the rules!)

5. Backup DVDs. It's actually come in handy a couple of times to recover stuff that was accidentally deleted from everywhere else or to get a previous version of a file.

God that is an awful thing to happen. I can understand how gutted you must be.

Steadily you could build up your references again. Perhaps you could look at different subjects to skin, other than the Spits and Hurri's etc that you were used to. You could develop a sudden interest in Mitchells or Blenheims. Or perhaps Polikarpovs... Winky

And like eveyone else, I do hope you return to skinning. It would be a great pity to lose you.

Sorry to read that Kristorf. I've experienced this kind of curse a couple of times, harddrive failure, noting could be saved, photos, templates everything was wasted... An datas are lost forever Mad

Don't give up, you've got talent, the skinning addiction will take you back soon or late. Wink

Bum deal. I have a feeling though, that at some point you'll be watching a Spit doing a wingover in an old B&W doc and get inspired again.
