Could someone please tell me how to import new fonts into GIMP?
Thank You Wubke |

Well with Photoshop you just copy them into your windows font folder from the Control Panel and they automatically show up the next time you open Photoshop. I assume GIMP will be the same.
You do need to be careful using some aircraft fonts as many of them do not have a "shifted" version of the characters you just type all lowercase. _________________________________ Some random "stuff" : WTE (Australasian IL2 Squadron): http://www.wte-anga.com/ New Gladiator/J8A layers: http://tiny.cc/J8A_engine and http://tiny.cc/J8Apits Early and pre-war Czech/Slovak skins: http://tiny.cc/J8ASlovakia and http://tiny.cc/CLH PZL.p11c as Aero A102 : http://tiny.cc/A102 3rd Sqdn RAF 37/38: http://tiny.cc/3RAF1937 and http://tinyurl.com/3RAF1938 N5519 Charity 1939: http://tinyurl.com/n5519 |

Yep, GIMP just uses fonts that are installed in Windows (or Linux). I have heard that there are some fonts out there that, even though installed in Windows and working in other programs, do not show up in GIMP. I can't remember any of the font names or the reason why, however.

Thanks guys, I got the fonts to work. Now could you tell me if there is an easier way to out line them than by free hand or stroking a path?
Thanks Again |

Your best bet in Gimp is to use "alpha to selection" and then stroke, as far as I know. I can't recall any other way.

Here's what I've done a few times, though the exact procedure may vary depending on what kind of text I'm trying to outline - 1. On the layer containing the text to be outlined, use the Color Select tool to select the text. 2. On the paths tab, do a Selection to Path. (I know, you said you didn't want to stroke a path, but paths are really great tools!). 3. Unselect all. 4. Create a new transparent layer under the one with the text. 5. Select the color for your outline. 6. Stroke the path created in step 2, adjusting the line size to give you the amount of outline desired. 7. (optional) Merge the outline layer with the original text layer. Doing this in two layers gives several advantages. One, it's easier to clean up little mistakes or irregularities. Two, since the text and outline are on separate paths, you can easily change the color of one (or both) without affecting the other. |
