I have XP 64. I have tried using the wizard and manually setting compatibilty to install farcry as a 32 bit executable. I still get the message: Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows. setup64.exe!? that certainly isn't on any of these CD's. If you have to install the 32 bit version before you install the 64 bit patch how is this possible? I see other people have this problem. I see the same responses over and over. None are a solution. I'm afraid there are different CD's floating around, because some people apparently have not had any problem installing the 32 bit version on XP 64 but I've noticed a few have exactly the same problem as I have. Like I already said I haven't seen any solutions given for these people. How can I install this? And what is setup64.exe and if its needed where can a person get it?

Far Cry only comes in the 32 bit format. You need to install it normally then add the 64 bit AMD patch to convert it to 64 bit.

What do you mean by "normally" if it will not install to begin with? It's installer states that you must use the setup64.exe which cannot be found on the CD. So help me get past step 1. Apparently there are many others of us who were looking forward to running Farcry on their XP Pro 64 machines only to get this same error. |

I have the exact same problem, in that the game DOES NOT INSTALL, it comes back with the message "Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows. setup64.exe" right after it attempts to start the installation process.
Specs: - XP 64 bit - Intel 64 bit Dual 3Ghz cpu - 1 GB Ram - AMD X800XL Graphic card (latest 64 bit driver) - WD 250GB HD using SATA I - 450W PS - Benq CD/DVD R/W Anyone have ideas of how to resolve this!? This message has been edited. Last edited by: tyal8r, |

How are you trying to run the installler?
From the AUTO play menu or direct from the Setup.exe file? I vaguely remember having issues with that when I had XP64 installed as an Update to XP32. I didnt get that after a clean install of XP63 though. CuZ |

I have installed far cry on Windows pro 64-bit. You put the cd in, double click the CD/DVD drive icon and click "install". It goes to the x86 folder where all 32-bit apps go. You do not need to search for a special installer.

Hi,
Here is what I have tried, nothing works, the game DOES NOT INSTALL on my system and the reason appears to be that I am running XP64. This is a clean install of XP64, it cannot even be installed as an upgrade to XP32 so I'm not sure how that person said they did that. I have installed other 32 bit applications and they do get installed into the x86 folder. The FarCry CD does not even run the installer! Option 1 - Install from CD autoplay: when I put the CD into the drive, the menu does popup. When I click on Install it disappears and nothing happens...presumably because it is returning an error message that does not get displayed to the user. Option 2 - Run FarCryAutoCD.exe from CD: The menu pops up and disappears, never to be seen again..same as above. Option 3 - Run FarCry.exe from CD: FarCry logo pops up, then disappears, then the message "CrySystem.dll Loading Failed: The specified module could not be found." Option 4 - Run setup32.exe from CD: It starts setting up the installer and then returns the error message "Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows!" Option 5 - Copy CD 1 to Hard drive: I tried running all the executables above with the same results. How could this work for other people, obviously I am not the only one having this problem, I did not start this thread another person with the same problem did! I thought it was because I have a Pentium processor but "hamnose" who started the thread has an AMD! What is going on!? Is there a flaw with the FarCry CD where it cannot install on some systems and the installer does not return any message but just disappears!? |

An unfortunate use of phrase on my part, I mean when I added XP64 as a dual install with XP32 still installed. Are you trying this immediately after a clean install, or do you have all the MS updates before trying? At option 4 have you tried changing the compatability to run as XP32? You say CD, is it the CD version or the DVD? |

Cuztds_lst_stnd, thanks for the reply...
I GOT IT WORKING! The answer was in another post: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/170106891/m/6701096654 I have the 5 disc CD version here is what I did: - installed it on my 2nd computer with XP no problems there. - added all the patches. - moved the entire "Ubisoft" folder from XP into my XP64 computer into "C:\Program Files (x86)" - then ran the AMD 64bit upgrade (which still works with a Pentium) - held my breath, double clicked the new "Far Cry (64-bit)" icon...and Voila! It was a long process, but I'm glad that it is working, there really should be an easier way to install it directly on XP64, maybe its got something to do with the CD version vs the DVD. Thanks for the help. |

Glad ur sorted!
It might be the CDvDVD issue, but i definately had trouble running the installer first time around with just the DVD. Who knows! lol CuZ |

I too just ran into this problem. It appears there are 2 different versions released on the 5-CD set for Far Cry. Mine has a different set of files on CD-1 then my friends does. mine has
I get the error "Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows. setup64.exe" I examined my friends copy of Far Cry and it is definetly different then my copy and his installs perfectly and runs perfectly on the Vista 64-bit OS. The only difference we can see on the two copies is that HIS (the one that works) has the following files on the root of CD-1 Game.cab 1,405 KB 2/27/2004 00000000.016 151 KB 3/2/2004 00000000.256 302 KB 3/2/2004 00000001.TMP 2 KB 3/2/2004 Autorun.inf 1 KB 2/15/2004 DrvMgt.dll 24 KB 3/2/2004 Far Cry.msi 1,359 KB 2/27/2004 FarCry.exe 1,151 KB 2/26/2004 FarCryAutoCD.exe 3,152 KB 2/26/2004 SECDRV.SYS 13 KB 3/2/2004 setup.exe 4,485 KB 2/27/2004 Setup.skin 7,071 KB 2/23/2004 My copy that doesn't install on Vista 64-bit has the following files on CD-1 Game.cab 1,405 KB 6/1/2004 Autorun.inf 1 KB 2/15/2004 FarCry.exe 32 KB 2/26/2004 FarCryAutoCD.exe 3,156 KB 4/23/2004 FC32.msi 1,372 KB 6/1/2004 Setup.skin 7,071 KB 2/23/2004 setup32.exe 4,485 KB 6/1/2004 Notice the FC32.msi and the setup32.exe? Some folks have reported installing the game on a 32 bit OS then copying the Program Files folder of FarCry over to the 64-bit Program Files (x86) folder. If this works, I'd be amazed because without a proper "installation process' I can't see how the registry would ever get populated with the proper information for the game. Once again, the game fails to install with the following message. "Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows. setup64.exe". Why in the world would they have put out 2 releases? |

One more question. Are most people running the 64 bit version of Far Cry (patch 1.3 I think) or are you running patch 1.4 cumulative, and staying with the 32 bit?

As I said in the other post, You can only game online with 32 bit.
Since there are not as many people with a 64 bit OS, there are not so many that have installed the 64 bit content for single player only. |

took me a while since there is not a lot of information out there on this but here's what i did...
1. Install FarCry to an x86 installation of windows... 2. Copy the ENTIRE x:\Program Files\Ubisoft folder to your x:\Program Files (x86) folder on the xp64 installation... 3. Install patch 1.3 to the installation... 4. Add the AMD 64 pack... 5. Patch with 1.4... 6. Enjoy!!! please note that x64 shows 1.32 in the menu screen but x86 shows 1.4... the 1.4 patch does NOT apply to x64... |
