It looks like it auto-saves during the game, and there are savegames, but when I close the game, and then open the game again, it won't show me the savegames to load. It makes me start over. How can I pick up where I left off if it won't show me the savegames?

Make sure you select a profile. Saveganes are stored under profile names.

I played under "default" as the profile originally. I shut the game down to run some errands, and when I opened the game and didn't see my savegames, I created a new profile, and started a new game. I played for a little while, shut the game down and reopened it, and it isn't showing my savegames. They are in the savegames folder, but they aren't showing in the game to load them.

Decided to re-download and install it again, and it's OK now.
Must have been a bug...
