I've worked out how you get a CD Key to play online. I was amazed it worked, but its pretty straight forward really.

First, you logon to amazon.com, then you pretend your not a cheap skate and search for Far Cry, then you buy it for a measly $12 Smile

The AD company 'sponsoring' this free download only realistically have the opportunity to place in-game ads in the SP side of the game, not the MP maps.

If you really want to play FC online, just dip you hand into your pocket and buy it.

If UBI give away free CD-Keys, they will destroy the MP game as it will mean cheaters who have been banned on numerous servers can get back online and ruin your MP experience with lame hacks.

Deleted... Flaming is not tolerated on these forums...

We were provided with what was said to be a COMPLETELY. FREE. FULL. GAME. and we can't even play online.
That's almost the same as getting ripped off with a game you paid money for and having most of the features not even work.
So of course quite a few of us are upset, it's not that hard to come up with new working serial numbers, just go through the ones that are already in use and make new ones.
But the devs have to have all of these keys approved for multiplayer functionality.

No need to be abusive, you DID get a free game after all, the fact that YOU wanted the mp and not the sp isn't anyone elses problem.
Why not spare a thought for the entire world out there outside the US that didn't even get the sp version, as the free Ad supported games are only for the US.

What did you read that guaranteed a completely full game? Isn't it enough that you can play the single-player component of one of the greatest FPSs on the PC? I mean, that's the core of the experience. It's about 30 hours, it's got great graphics, great AI, and huge environments to explore. You get all that for free. The multi-player is your typical stuff, made extra spicy by the fact that you can play and make custom maps.
It seems that you only care for the multiplayer, in which case you can either buy the game (which is really dirt cheap), see if Ubisoft suddenely gives away CD-keys (I don't think it's probable, but hey, who knows), download the also free Ghost Recon instead (which has multiplayer, no CD key needed), or not play Far Cry at all. If we suddenly are provided a way to play online, great, if not, I'm more than happy with what I have.

I was mostly pissed off at the guy because of his hugely sarcastic post that served no other purpose other than to antagonize those of us with the free version.

I'm perfectly content with the fairly big singleplayer campaign myself, I'm just a bit disappointed that there's no multiplayer because most of the mods for the game are for multiplayer.

But, if we never get serials then I won't mind either.

Oh and to people wondering how to get rid of the advertisements, just download and appy a no-cd crack.

@BTOG46, people need to learn how to read. You don't need to be in the us to get the game working. It's called making an account on ubi.com that has your country set as the US, then it works. Jesus, use some common sense. And as the guy above me mentioned... using a no-cd crack will allow no ads to be shown.

Obviously that was aimed towards the devs... if you would've read the post in its entirety.

My point was that Ubi should have released their ad supported games world wide, this is what it says on Gamershell about ALL the free games "You will need an Ubi.com account and you must live in the U.S. to play the game"
What you advocate, would be close to breaking the Terms of Use on the Ubi forums, multiple accounts are frowned on and your no cd crack suggestion is covered by this part of the terms, under the list of things you must NOT do is this one, "Promote or encourage any illegal activity including hacking, cracking or distribution of counterfeit software." Indifferent

Lucid, Why on earth would Ubi want to give free cd keys? As pointed out it's US only because UBI are being paid by the advertisers to display US targeted ads that aren't in the multiplayer. FFS it's free so nobody owes you a thing, you gets what you pays for.
Eventually there may be free cd keys as a tempter to buy FC2, just like there was free Fear multiplayer once fear 2 came out, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Ubi could have mentioned the lack of MP game, but yer still getting a cracking SP game FOR FREE!!!
But since they got Jack's name & the storyline wrong, they weren't exactly going for accuracy... Too Happy

So why are the kiddies whinging?

Are they already on the Master Ban List & want to get back online to spoil everyone's game, or what...?!?

Stop being so ungrateful... Blink

Or ask Mom/Dad/Prison Warden for $9.95... Hammer

And could someone change my Avatar Title (Looks at Cuz)... I'm not a CryMod Mod anymore...
I'm too busy for spamming!!! Spam Mocking

EDIT: Thinking about it...
This Free Version would have different .pak files, so they wouldn't be allowed to play online (instant kick!!!) as it'd look like you'd h4x0red the textures/models etc...
So you'd get banned anyway!

omg....am i really reading what im reading....pmsl

you get 1 of the best ever single player games for free (3 yrs old i know but still FREE), and ya moaning about no cd key....rofl! just think if ubi gave free cd keys then it would let all those hackers previously banned back...for nothing at the moment the only way back for them is to have to buy a new game! So i would say to ubi....PLEASE DO NOT GIVE AWAY FREE CD KEYS! we dont want em back!

the game now cost nothing, infact i am expecting to be able to get it free with my next box of cornflakes!

I suggest u play the single player and then write a thread here headed... THANK YOU UBI FOR MAKING MY LIFE MEANINGFUL! instead of moaning about a freebiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

by the way i played MP last night...it rocked....i rocked....me m8s rocked....and i was naked aswell Too Happy

Where i'm from it would be illegal to advertize that a product has some features when in reality it doesnt. Its called false advertizment and the advertizer would have to provide what he had advertized to his customers if it was taken to court. Now, when I look at Fileplanet it *clearly* says "Far Cry Full Game [Free Game - Ad Supported]" . Full game is the important bit here. Giving away the single player portion of the game is not the full game. Its like advertizing free cars, but when people show up to get their free cars they would only be given the tyres.

I must say i have absolutely no interest in the single player campaign as i dont play single player games. The only reason why i downloaded this game was because i wanted to try it out online. You'd think it was possible to play the free "full" version online considering the pay-for full version works online.

BTW the fanbois can spare their sarcastic comments, I have no interest in fighting with you, I am only here to claim what was promised to me. The fanboi comments i read in this thread really makes me sad, they only cause fights and serve no real purpose but trolling. So please do not make a troll post in response to my legitimate post

Well, if you want a legal debate, I'm sure the lawyers would be rubbing their hands in glee...

Let me play devils advocate for a moment, since I am not employed by UBI I can give you an impartial view Wink

I am glad you point out that its Fileplanets advertising you object to and not Ubis.

As far as the "full game" all the files are present, correct and functional. You have the full game, and then some since you get the benefit of the in game advertising. Wink

I dont see anywhere in the small print that mentions an entitlement to a free CD key...

Then there is the EULA, I havent seen it for this version but would doubt very much that it promises you access to the online experience?
The original version actually warns you that you have no rights to it and that they can withdraw the service when they like.

So while to you fileplanets advertisments seem to be misleading, what claim do you believe you have on them?
Especially if they are unable to provide you a key?
Well I guess they could refund you the cost of purchase... Indifferent

There is always the time/BW you used to DL and install it, you could demand compensation for that?
Or perhaps you could spend your time productively playing the iro 30hours of the SP game instead... Indifferent

I have actually got a lot of sympathy for the people who feel they have been misled, but at the end of the day, in my eyes at least, you have just got the bargain of the century...

If you really want to play the MP game, and UBI/Fileplanet dont support that desire, check out your local gamestore. Imagine how cheap its going to be now its available for download?

The guys you refer to as fanbois are exactly that. We have been playing this game for 3 1/2 years and our online community is down to just a few hundred players these days.
All of those that you refer to above would love for 60,000+ new players to be online, it would breath new life into the game.

Sadly this doesnt look like its going to happen, although I have raised it with the community managers, to date I have had no response...

If I hear anything else I will let you know
