of all the games i have ever owned for the pc. the absolute worst support i've ever seen is a 3 way tie. Far Cry ,Guild Wars , and Mafia.
Guild wars for the total disregard for customers once they purchased the product.they managed to alienate the customer base by having seperate companies handle different aspects of service.when a customer has a problem they are sent back and forth between the 3 companies till you loose the desire to fix anything. Mafia, for the total lack of any support at all.a patch has never been released at all.several aspects of the game that were promised after its release never came about.and never even an apology or an answer why.they just dropped all support after 6 months. and far cry for the absolute worst patching system ever created.all through the forums you find posts on on problem after another. ranging from the game not running at all after a patch to sticking in windowed mode and numerous variations.myself i have had to spend hours going through posts trying to find out why after it ran fine for a year on my nvidia card. it wouldnt run on my new ati card.i finally found out how to get it to run.it involved a ridiculus system of deleteing an old patch then sifting through the registry for its remaining keys and deleting them.when i did this i was told not to use the 1.4 patch cause it caused the problem.it was an online patch so it wouldnt matter if i didnt play the multiplayer aspect.well did that, felt a little ripped off because i purchased the full game and had to disregard part of it now.but ok im not a baby.well then my mouse didnt work turns out after sifting through the forums for hours again,i had to reset the controls to default(despite never changing them )it was something to do with the last patch.well the latest problem is it wont run in full screen when sent to full screen the screen goes black and wont respond to any keystrokes.i had to do a hard reboot to acces my pc.as of this point i am done with this game.i payed full price for the game when it came out.got to play it for 6 months thats been it.no matter how you put it that is pathetic.and no i dont run some obscure pc configuration.from the looks of these forums a lot of others are haveing the same problems. If 5 of every 10 people have the same issues its not the systems they run but the game they run.saying people are the cause or the systems they run doesnt cut it, not with 40% haveing the same problems.if adobe could only get photoshop to run on 40% of customers pc's they would fix it.when a person pays for a piece of software the agree to certain terms and conditions to allow them to use it.by this agreement a legal bond is made.however when a customer must continually jump through hoops and use tricks the average pc user has no clue how to do.and spend hours viewing posts in forums and combing through faqs and asking questions.then the company did not keep their end of the agreement. No matter how u view this or what u think of me or what i have to say.u must at least agree one side of this agreement was not held up.extreme steps have to be taken to keep this game running on most pcs.i say most because the sheer number of posts all concerning the same issues, by such a wide array of different users and setups. I doubt i will ever get this game to run for any period of time.and now i dont care anymore.I can not ask for my money back because it did run for a time.but i do feel cheated by the makers of this game.and believe that i will hold this experience in mind when i purchase another game. |

Many people blame the software when it is the computer.
There could be driver issues ( you did after all change graphic cards. Try using DriverCleaner) or other things. The first time I installed the game, it worked fine. I didn't know about the SP 1.4 see through walls issue and just installed without reading the forums. It is an older game after all and the company must move on. |

lol, thank you for your reply. and yes ive been down the road of driver cleaner and various others.please the point i was making is an average pc gamer is forced to jump through hoops beyond the norm to run this game.so i just wanted to speak my mind on this matter.i have run numerous games on here with less than a tenth the hassle this game has given.games that are both newer and more system intensive and dependant.unreal 2004 runs great never any issues at all since its release.with countless mods installed and uninstalled.call of duty 1 and 2 no issues.Oblivion runs with out a hitch, even runs at a really good frame rate.Splinter cell double agent and advanced warfighter 2 both run very well.so if those games all run so well, how then can it be a problem with my system or drivers which i keep up to date.believe me when i say its not my machine unless there are problems with more than this game. Also the last patch seems to be the worst one yet.and yes they do need to move on but i think that should happen after they have actually made a stable version on at least a 70% average.the whole time ive owned this game it worked 6 months total.if other game makers can do it they can too.

The mouse issue and AI xray vision occur if you have the 1.4 patch installed, which was as you said a MP only patch.
For SP, you can either use the 1.33 patch, or Docseals 'unofficial' 1.41 patch, bear in mind the 1.41 patch only addresses the xray vision problem I believe. As for the patch installer system, yes it is **** and the person who made them needs a good slap However, when you uninstall a patch or the entire game itself, rather than having to sift through the OS registry, you can speed things up and make like easier for yourself by download the 'windows installer cleanup utility', and simply delete the relevant FC entries. Not sure why you can't run full screen though, when it runs in WINDOWED mode have you tried opening the console and typing \r_fullscreen 1 (it may be 0 instead of 1) ...this toggles between fullscreen and windows mode. Note, if your running in full screen mode and alt+tab out of the game, FarCry will 99% of the time crash, tabbing back to it will leave you with a black screen and an unresponsive PC. However you can alt+tab between apps when running in windowed mode. |
