Hello all,
I just bought a graphics card (an XFX 7800GTX) which came with Far Cry. I installed it and have been playing it non-stop and have tried to get online and play multi-player but it doesn't work. It just refuses to connect to any game server. Does anyone have any advice for how to make it work? I love this game and would love to play online! Thanks for your help, -- John. |

Can you connect to UBI when selecting MP?
If yes to above, can you see the server list? What exact error message do you get? It could be: 1> Your trying to connect to a server running a different version of FC to you. 2> Your Ubi account user/pass isnt recognised 3> Your firewall is blocking FC from accessing the t'internet 4> Your modem isnt plugged in |

I enter the correct username and password but I only get as far as: "Logging in to Ubi.com"
And it just sits there forever. I get no error message or anything. I have no idea what is going on. Any ideas? |

I think I've got to the bottom of it.
I'm downloading the 1.4 patch now and with any luck that should fix it. (I assume the cumulative patch is all I need to upgrade from 1.0 - I don't need to download all of them right?) Also, I have a dilemma. This game came free with my graphics card, which I bought off eBay, so it's possible someone else is using it with the same CD Key. But even so, do I need to enter the key when playing online? Because as it happens, when the game arrived, the CD Key was taped to the top of the CD. Foolishly, I copied the CD Key to a bit of paper (now long lost) and installed the game. As it was installing I heard this loud crunching noise from the CD Rom and when installation was over and I ejected the CD, sure enough, the taped on CD Key was gone - lost in my CD Rom! I have not yet dug it out and the drive continues to work, but if I'm going to need it for online use I'll open it up now and take it out. EDIT: Downloaded and installed 1.4 Patch and now the game won't load! It opens the initial screen with the characters standing there and it says Build 1405 Patch 1.4 but it just freezes and Task Manager tells me it is not responding. Now I'm nervous that not only are my chances slim of multiplayer but also that my single player progress will be lost if I have to completely uninstall... |

As you've mentioned, that problem is either patch related or firewall related...I'd go the former initially.
You do need to enter your key sometimes, its been a while since i've played it - but I think it may ask for the CD-KEY the first time you try MP. Not sure why you post-patch FC wont load anymore. Search the forums, Im sure your not the only person to have experienced it. Good Luck. |

I did a search but found no one in the same boat.
Also, I failed to open the DVD-Rom drive, though I did almost wreck it and now there's a lot of slack in the drive tray so I feel like I just have to abandon it and wait until Far Cry 2 comes out! It's very frustrating! |

You said..."As it was installing I heard this loud crunching noise from the CD Rom and when installation was over and I ejected the CD, sure enough, the taped on CD Key was gone - lost in my CD Rom!"
This might be the root of your problem now. FC needs to have the disc in the drive to properly initialize the game. I am guessing that some physical damage may have occured when you accidently crunched the paper/sticker in the drive. Do other discs still run in the drive properly? Also, I believe that the 1.4 patch gives you an option to uninstall itself. Run the .exe patch file again look at your choices and I think one of them has to do with removing the patch. Remove it and try launching the game again. If it runs then you have narrowed the problem to the 1.4 patch installation. Perhaps you need to try a fresh download of the cumulative 1.4 patch and try again. If nothing else works, you will have to try a fresh install... but remember that the 1.4 patch will not totally uninstall when you remove the game. You will still have to use the patch .exe file to totally remove it and reinstall it correctly. My guess is that your initial MP trouble was related to not having the latest patch (1.4). If we can get you patched up properly you should be able to get online and give it a go. Good luck... www.fearthebestclan.com |

Well I uninstalled 1.4 and attempted to play the game again... however, when I clicked on PLAY (which is further than it got before I removed 1.4) a little window popped up that said:
"FarCry Error CrySystem.dll Loading Failed: The specified module could not be found." So I'm thinking that I'm going to have to re-install all together. This is bad because I have no access to the stupid CD Key because I can't open the stupid CD Rom drive!!!! I can't believe it! Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it. Hopefully I'll get there eventually... |

Dang... ya that CD key is going to be a problem for you if you no longer have it.
Farcry is a great game, even being several years old. The online community has lessoned quite a bit, but there are still some great servers out there to play on. If your troubles persist with the CD key issue, I think it would definitely be worth your while to snag a new copy of Farcry off of Amazon or somewhere. I think you can still find it new for under 10$ USD plus a little shipping. I have several newer games in my collection, but FARCRY is still one of my favorite games to play online and I even still plow thru the single player campaign from time to time. Hope things work out... www.fearthebestclan.com |
