1) Done 2) Done. More comments added also. 3) Unlike MD5tool checks, CVAR checks do not work in order of listing. I just made a movie on WMD Authority to show this. I specifically chose ui_repeatdelay as it is on the bottom of the list. (The stuff you see about Event missed, etc..is from having log verbosity set to 8.) File re-uploaded: http://gotfrags.net/pbsv.cfg I'm glad you replied to this thread. I was hoping you would take the time to introduce Detective Beaker to the rest of the world. |

Thanks,
For the Hard Work here. I had just updated the pb config on the W]M[D server just a few hours earlier. I have now uploaded the latest changes to the W]M[D Server also, so feel free to drop in and as stated by others here.......Any feedback on your gaming experience is greatly appreciated. |

It checks for rates in the CVARs. It also checks for the keybinds. Changing your rates means the server has to calculate the amount of data it must send to you now and possibly make an adjustment. Of course, this calculation takes CPU time/effort and the player warps (I called it rate glitch above.)
Nothing will stop PB from checking ur keybinds if someone configures it to check for them. |

Based on discussions with someone from another board, I have slightly updated the config a bit. It now closes off the possibility of a Scripts folder on the root directory.

I personally think the rates should be set by server configs if that is possible, if the admin doesnt want to do that then thats their issue... Checking keybinds for a rate adjustment is only usefull if you find multiple rate keybinds which would show someone was trying to REALLY use them for an advantage and not just change their update rate... and on another note this config means that now average joes running a server can read any keybind that unknowing players have scripted to their keys... I for example have rcon pass and certain rcon commands
bound to keys for the up to four servers we may have up at a time so now i have to worry about losing that convenience so others cant bind rate changes to their keys? now i know this could have been done b4 but now everyone and their momma is gonna be able to do it..... |

1) The rates are controlled by the server. They're just not currently netsynch'd to the clients. 2) Obviously just your opinion. 3) You're right. This keybind search is nothing new and certainly not specific to Far Cry. It's a standard PB command. There was only one keybind search in the last version of my config for fixed_time_step. I just added two more. Perhaps it went unnoticed because I didn't make it a release note. As for admins quickly coming up with the idea to modify the config to check for other admin's rcon commands...well...that's kind of malicious in nature and I'd like to hope that it wasn't the first thing that came to most minds. |

Ohhhh noeeess! Not the Aliens!!! Seriously though...just put your keybinds at the bottom of game.cfg and then right click on the file then properties and check the box "Read Only." As for ignorign MD5 toolchecks. That is a common problem which usually indicates a bad PB install. Hopeful fixes: 1) Download pbsetup.exe. Put it in its own folder somewhere on your hard drive (Desktop, My Documents, C:\), but not in your game installation folders. Run it and add Far Cry as a game. It will then update your files as needed. 2) If you are still getting consistently kicked, remove every file from your PB folder without deleting the PB folder itself then run pbsetup.exe. This will give you a fresh install. 3) While connected to a game server, check your connection to your current PB master server with the pb_plist command. If your range is 0-3.9, you're fine. If 4 or more, you're on your way to being kicked the closer to 10, the soon the kick will come. To change master servers, use the pb_nextmaster command. 4) Make sure your server PB\dll folder only has 3 files: wa001335.dll, wc001192.dll, and ws001229.dll. If you have any others delete them. If there are other files than the latest, sometimes the server kicks for wrong client version. @Drake- Hopefully, with a some work before the release, there won't have to be so much afterwards EDIT: Where did the posts I was replying to go? Hmmm...maybe solifer's Aliens snatched them up! !! |

Ya what happened to my posts?
@Doc I noticed the cfg doesn't include a check for cl_updaterate. Ok that's all I got lol. Hit me on xfire sometime. The forum was down for a few days and some posts may have been lost before the previous backup. Sorry. This message has been edited. Last edited by: fabulouscoops, |

Since cl_updaterate isn't a command that shows up in the console it cannot be CVAR checked. The best than can be done is a keybind search.
Of note: There's a PB command you can use to check the exact value of any player CVAR at any time. It's pb_sv_cvarval. Example: to check what all your connected client's value for g_radarrange simply put \rcon pb_sv_cvarval g_radarrange in the console. The output will be in your most recent PB server log (Pb\svlogs directory.) The inability to check this value might get fixed in the near future |

I have made a revision to my config. It appears as though you cannot have two lines of whitefilelist checks or it breaks both of them. Therefore, I have set one of them as a task. Thanks Achilles.

Docseal this is the rate master aka noni.
So what exactly is updaterate now? Is it a cheat and should people be kicked for that? If not it would be great if everyone started using it cause it still gives an advantage I think. |

Hi noni. I don't know you, but the rates are all covered here. There are ways to use rates to give yourself a constant or temporary advantage. If you posted here asking me to explain them...you've come to the wrong person and place.

Doc, I think already Noni has figured out this whole advantage thing and wants you to say it's not cheating "what, no hit reg? must be lag..." BTW, Hi Cuz! |

I didnt post that for you to explain what rates are.
I only asked for your opinion on whether you think updaterate is a cheat or not and u said it could be used as such. |

@DC and noni- I'm long past being a server admin and determining what is and what isn't a cheat. I update my config based on concerns/information from many sources within the community. What admins choose to do with the config I provide is totally up to them.
Just like a map bug is not a bug until some tries to exploit a situation for their advantage, none of the console commands are cheats on their own. It's people trying to alter default values or find obscure commands for an edge on the competition that suddenly make them a cheat. Simply put, it's up to each server's admins to decide what is and what isn't allowed on their servers. If they see something strange, I can try and figure out what is going on. |

Today I have another update to my config thanks to a tip from a CB player. I recommend immediate upgrades for those that use my config. I will reissue a few warnings:
1) Do NOT change the DupNameGrace time. It is turned off to allow two people playing behind a router to connect to the same server. There is a bug in FC which detects them as the same player name. 2) This config kicks people with ASCII characters via the pb_sv_extChar 0 command. If you want to allow the characters simply put it to 1. 3) The default kick time is 2 minutes (pb_sv_KickLen 2.) It should be 0 for competitions and you can adjust however you want for your own clan server (used to be 10 minutes...quite excessive for a packet loss kick.) 4) This config does keybind checks for the words rate, ai_, and time. DO NOT have a keybind of your rcon password with any matches to that including partial matches (Examples: crate, hammertime.) As always...my config is here: http://gotfrags.net/pbsv.cfg Happy Fraggin', Doc |

Thanks Doc, your efforts are really helping keep FC alive! I wish all the clans would start running your cfg on ALL their servers.
