I guess I've been throught this game as much as anybody, more times than 2 hands can count. Went through every angle, with just a machete, or just a pistol, for speed, or to get everything possible. So, I layed off for quite a while, discovering other FPS games, wondering, where are the rocks?
Anyway, after a long time in coming, I now possess an Alienware monster with a 24" flat screen, a Far Cry (forgive the pun) from what I played this game on. Now I am rediscovering the rich textures and incredible views at full settings and 24" wide screen. Still love it! ______________________________ For tips and work-arounds, please check: Tips, Tactics, & **SPOILERS** thread Cpt Long USA, Ret. |

We should all have a little Cpt in us. Enjoy it all over again.

Now we have the machines that Far Cry always belonged on. I have recently been through both Gothic 3 and Crysis, both of which I consider to be state of the art in modern PC games. Neither of those games is 4 years "better" than Far Cry. I too have returned to one of the
best PC games ever written, and I am enjoying it just as much as I did in 2004 ... and now it loads in less than 10 seconds :-) |

I just got a new comp bout half a year ago going from a 9800pro to a 8800gts 320 was amazing even now the graphics are amazing, must give it another play through. Tried online a few times aswell but lol it seems kinda dead, i'm bit rusty but still can pull of some good shots, what a game. Crysis was rubbish imo fc2 looks to be good.

So I guess we've had a very similar experience CptLong. I've got a new PC, dual core, 8800 GT, 2 MB RAM and of course one of the first things I did on it was playing FarCry. Amazing feeling to be playing at 1600x1200, all setting at max and still get around 70-100 FPS.
I've encountered a problem though. I just can't complete the hummer run in "Swamp" anymore. I guess it's because the AI now gets much more ressources to accurately aim. I can deal with the other hummers and the chopper allright, but even if I am at full health and nearly full armour I can't get past the point where Val would drive the hummer over that ramp in that Merc camp along the road. Even if I have a rocket left and blast the Mercs in front of the ramp away I still die almost instantly because of the Mercs in the tower and shooting them with the machine gun just won't work, not enough time. This was never a problem on my slower machine. Cpt, can you tell me where to do the climb over the fence? I remember from reading your posts years ago that you know how to do it. Or perhaps you can tell me how survive while using the hummer. Any help would be appreciated. Greetings to Scoops and all the other familiar names that still post on here, too numerous to mention. Haven't bought Crysis yet btw. and am not sure I will from what I read about it. edit: I've found the posts where it is explained : "How to shortcut the Swamp fence", but I haven't been able to do it so far. Hmmm, I don't think he was talking about Cpt. Morgan ;-)
G_G Here a pic from the top looking down http://img59.exs.cx/img59/6979/FarCry0031.jpg Spoliers Just before you enter the camp,go left and there is an outcrop, look up for the "V" cut in the rocks. That's your climbing entry point. To make it easier, go straight, through a small gully. Get behind the camp, and from there you can pick off the tower guy, and rush the 4X4, hop on the gun and go to town on the mercs. Point is, its best to clear the camp before the climb, because, occassionally, while you're gone, Val will get into a fire fight and you both die. Once the camp is clear, make the climb and head out. If you check the walkthrough, you'll see there are 2 main options. 1. Shoot the guards around the 1st 4x4, and around the gate, then go straight through the woods and you'll find the ambush 4x4. Then you can pick your way to the choke point you describe. 2. Go left and follow the ridgeline and you'll end up by the first gate, and clear from there. If you're real adventurous, you can push crates off of the ramp to set up an easy return, then hop down and go clear the camp where the jeep stops. Caution. DO NOT enter the computer control room that triggers the cut scene where Val enters after you summon her. There is also another climb back, if the crates don't work. Go back to camp, and near the fence is a spot you can climb back up and drop into the small cam. From there its an easy ride. ______________________________ For tips and work-arounds, please check: Tips, Tactics, & **SPOILERS** thread Cpt Long USA, Ret. |

This is my first time playing the game and i have a feeling i will replay many parts (already have gone back a few times to try different ways)
My monitor (20" CRT) died during Treehouse and i got a 22" LCD - thank goodness it is fast -it looks just as good as before. So glad i came to the forum - I was a bit overwhelmed with the freedom of the game at first- very slow going, exploring ... and crouching in fear |

Welcome Pvt.Phil
You will find a vast storehouse of information all aspects of this game on these forums. Take a look at the stickies and the walkthrough if you get stuck. |

I've played FarCry 30 times. Only recently I learned about optimizing the computer by making the virtual memory level 50% greater than the RAM. I actually lowered it and now I can crank on the highest settings which helps sharpen a lot of bushes and adds shawdowing and wierd details such as soda cans.

Thanks 'Scoops- I had to create a new username here as the old one (Pvt Phil) was glitched re: login/logout. Just finished the game on Medium. One thing is for sure - i spent a lot of time crawling through sections for fear of detection/death. It sure wil be fun to replay on vetran mode. What about using "AI Auto balance" ? I thought that might be good, but i winder if it will make it too hard? |
