Hello. Just downloaded the demo and was trying it out before I purchase it. I noticed though that the water quality sucks. Please go to the link below to see what I am talking about:

http://www.scarmine.com/__files/farcrywater.jpg

My system specs are:
Dell E1705 | Core2Duo 2.0Ghz | 2gb 533 ram | Nvidia 7900GS Go 256mb | WUXGA | 100gb 72k | XP Pro SP2

Any idea why it's like that?

Thanks.

Yes, The Demo was released three years ago before PCI-e video cards. It will not run correctly with anything later than an AGP Radeon 9800 XT or FX 5950.
The full game has been patched to support newer hardware so the water will look very nice on your computer at highest settings.

Don't forget to pay tribute to all our wonderfull Far Cry mappers and modders by trying out their many great maps and mods too and thanking them for all their hard work. It's still one of the best reasons to buy Far Cry. There are probably about 2 gigs or more just in sp maps/mods now, far more content and hours of gameplay than the game itself offers.

Here's the best site to get them from:
http://www.farcry-maps.com/download.php

Note: You may want to avoid the sp coop mod, which allows competetive sp play. There have been lots of problems reported with it.

Hello. I've also got a problem with the water quality. Since there are many existing threads I'll post it here.
Everything looks great, but the water quality is like back in the early 90s (all those who played DOS games will know it). I installed the game (DVD Version 1.0) and the patches 1.1 and 1.3 so far and the graphics drivers are up to date.
I'm using a notebook, but that should not be the problem.

Settings: all max 1280x800
Sys specs: Samsung R70 Damaya NP-R70A007/SEG
nVidia GeForce Go 8600GS 256MB GDDR3 PCIe 16x
Intel Core2Duo T7500 2,2GHz
WXGA / 2GB RAM / HDD 4300 rpm

As you can see, the water just looks awful...

...but anything else seems to be displayed properly

Any ideas how to fix it?

You seem to have the hardware, patches and drivers. That covers 99% of the problems people have.
Maybe try another resolution and make sure water is on ultra high. (don't use the auto detect to set graphics)

I haven't set up Far Cry with "auto detect", but maxed out all the settings. Since my system specs exceed even the recommended hardware, I thought that there'll be no problems at all.
Well, I've got a 15,4" TFT widescreen, so the only suitable resolution is 1280x800.

Alright, after I played around with the video options for a while, I found out, that the highest possible setting for water quality is "Medium".

I just don't get it: My home desktop PC has a GeForce 6600GT 128MB AGP, 2x512MB RAM, an Athlon 4000+ single core and I can run the game at maxed out settings.

Is the difference between desktop and notebook systems that big? Should I install any other patches?

P.S. FC v.1.3.1337
