Hi fabulouscoops, this is the 2nd time I've come across this answer of yours, forgive me but to what exactly do you base this solution on? I'm experiencing this very same problem, btw using a Logitech MX1000 Laser mouse and your solution does not work regrettably. I've never experienced this before as just recently I've come back to try FC again after a long haitus and would love to figure this out. Thanks in advance for any help in resolving this,

He is basing it on the fact that it is usually caused by a change in patch 1.4 and doing as described has fixed it for everyone else
Are you doing this via options in the main menu? CuZ |

Hello, ok what exactly is patch 1.4 doing to cause this? Is it a USB issue? I've tried it (options) via the main menu but it does absolutely nothing. For reverence my spec are below, sorry for not postign them earlier, and thank you for responding and here's hoping I can get this resolved ASAP...

an alternative, which worked for me was to save the game.cfg prior to loading 1.4 and sticking it back afterwards. If you want keybinds the best place for them these days is the game.cfg but you must write protect it afterwards.
I believe the part of game.cfg that 1.4 changes are the commands that start Input:BindAction("TURNUD", "maxisy", and Input:BindAction("TURNLR", "maxisx", (the "maxisx" bit is from a working game.cfg) EDIT I am stupid |

Ignabold, thanks a bunch for your reply which sounds like something I can work with. I should mention that I purchased & directly downloaded FC which is of course already 1.4 so hopefully I can work this out. I will report back with my findings, wish me luck and thanks again bud

Well I'm sorry to say none of these ideas helped, now it's really beginning to get quite frustrating, UBISoft needs to get on the ball and address this as it should not be occurring for any reason. I have NO problems in any games new or old, if anyone really knows why this is happening I'd like to know in depth why and what I can do about it and would appreciate some sort of REAL solution...

This fix has worked for everyone else who has had this problem. Maybe you are on the wrong screen.
At the main menu click options. Go to the control tab (last one on the right) click the defaults button on the bottom of the page. I know of no other fix for this situation. |

|
Yes I'm at the right screen if you'd read my reply to CuZtds_Lst_Stnd above but again it does not work and I'd like to know and haven't got an answer to what this is supposed to do exactly or what files it is changing and if they can be edited manually for proper mouse control. I've tried editing the config files where it reads: Input:BindAction("TURNLR", "joy_rstick_ud", "default", 0); Input:BindAction("TURNUD", "joy_rstick_lr", "default", 0); What I'd like to know is why is it mentioned for joysticks where apparently you cannot set one up in the options screen but no mention of mouse axis's. Anyhow I will be contacting UBISoft Tech support on Monday to see what is going on with all of this as this is totally unacceptable... J.E. |

My game.cfg file has these lines:
Input:BindAction("TURNLR", "maxisx", "binozoom", 0); Input:BindAction("TURNUD", "maxisy", "binozoom", 0); Make sure you turn off write protect in the file's properties in windows before editing and then reset write protect after you save. |

They're both correct. There will be about FOUR turnlr and turnud commands, one for when using a bino, one for default, one for vehicle and one for weapon zoom.
Make sure All of the Input:BindAction("TURNLR" and "TURNUD" are set to maxisx and maxisy respectively maxis = Mouse axis (x,y) You have to get all of the little buggers or it doesn't work for some reason. Also the reason the normal fix doesn't work for you is probably because you downloaded direct to 1.4 so your defaults will be to joystick not mouse like everyone else HTH Grumpy Edit: This is going to make this a huge post so mods feel free to edit this once it's been used Below is my game.cfg if you cut and paste it should do the trick, though you may want to change some commands

As for how I did it, it was due in part to editing those files with the "maxisx/maxisy" commands but I didn't actually change all of those lines as i later found out. I subsequently changed all entries for all vehicles. I changed a few then went into the game and still same thing, no mouse look ability so I then went to the options screen for controls, not the main menu options and chose "default" then went back into the game and voila! it had worked! During this whole time I was "in the game" but just hitting "escape" to get to the options. I then set the rest of my controls, then exited the game and proceeded to write protected my \Far Cry\Profiles\player\"[profilename]_game.cfg" and now all is as it should be, with all the appropriate lines already containing the correct "maxisx, maxisy" additions. Well I will most likely edit this post and clean it up some but I can't thank you guys enough for your time and not to mention patience throughout Jeff This message has been edited. Thanks Ignabold!!
I cut & paste the config script you posted in the game.cfg and saved it .. now my mouse works just fine. Kelvin |

So you did it the long way, Kelvin.
Ignabold's reply is interesting for the analysis, but really: the quickest way to fix it is Options > Controls > hit Default button. If that doesn't fix it immediately, just 'assign' the mouse buttons to the options that are already there (as if they weren't) and click Apply. Anyway anyway... enjoy the game! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx BlindNero Forums for online Dark Messiah MM and other games support |

This is a bit of a strange problem. I recently re-installed Far Cry on my system (after a year hiatus) and had this problem when I started the game up after installing the 1.4 patch.
All I did to fix it, though, was to exit the game and restart it. It worked fine the next time. This is the only time this has happened in the nearly three years since I began playing Far Cry. There's something odd going on that I'm not sure the above fixes were actually necessary. Or perhaps there are two problems that cause the same symptom. --------------------------------------- Rockin' out of time... |

I've started another thread for my problem, but thought I would post here since this seems to have gotten more visibility.
I have the problem that my mouse axises are reversed, so right is left and left is right, up is down and so forth. After working on this problem for a time I think the problem is with Vista and not the game. I didn't seem to have this problem with XP and it doesn't matter which mouse I use, laser or optical I still have the problem. I've resorted to re-installing and trying every version of Far Cry 1.1 to 1.41 (unofficial patch) and still the same results. Has anyone had this same problem? |

1.4 is a multiplayer upgrade that has glitched the singleplayer game, in that the walls of the huts in the camps are now transparent to the mercs, and they can see [and shoot] you through them.
