First off, let me thank the developers for making such a fine game. I absolutely love this title.
Now onto the heart of the matter. I am going to use the P-51 Mustang (both the "D" and "H" Models, as well as the F-82) as my examples as I make my case. Lets take a look at a simple fact. The P-51 Mustang during WWII shot down more enemy aircraft in the European theater than any Allied airplane. It's Air-to-air totals? An impressive 4,950 kills. It also was responsible for 4,131 ground kills and 230 V-1 kills. Cadillac of Sky indeed. With that in mind, why does the Mustang seem outclassed by fighters in every era of the war? It doesn't seem right. Sure, the FW-190 and Spitfire series were impressive, but I must question the logic of the aircraft ratings, and why certain planes were rated different. The Spitfire and Mustang never faced off, but, all that's needed is that one examine the track record of the Mustang vs. The Focke Wolfe, and the Focke Wolfe vs. the Spitfire. Now some examples of what I felt were errors when it comes to the Mustang. Example A: The P-51D in the game is actually the P-51B. Why not have the "B" version as well as the "D" version? The "D" version is the model that really began to shine in WWII. Example B: The P-51H. Lighter and considerably faster. Although you have the "speed" rating correct, the acceleration should recieve a another star, and the agility should increase as well. The entire performance envelope increased. The firepower rating in the P-82 is nearly 6 stars (upgraded). The real life counterpart of the plane featured 6 0.50 caliber machine guns. 6 0.50 caliber machine guns were more then enough to bring down any oposing fighter. The "D" and "H" models had the same armament. So shouldn't the firepower ratings be the same? Plus, lets look at the "hit point" ratings. 2 Stars for the Mustang? The armour on the Mustang was on par with other planes (at least 3 star) and only suffered when the plane went on ground attack missions. In the air, it was equal to others. Example C: Here is, in my humlbe opinion, what the P-51H Mustang should have looked like. Speed - ****** (6 stars) Acceleration - ****** (6 stars) Agility - **** (4 stars) Firepower - ****** (6 stars) Hit points - *** (3 stars) In closing, am I asking that the Mustang be the cream of the crop? Not at all. Just that the Mustang be given it's due, and that means on equal footing with the counterparts of the era. P.S. The P-47's and F-4U's glaring absense is dissapointing as well. Don't forget the absence of the p-38.
And the p-61. But they certainly didn't forget to put rockets on planes that never could have used them. |

I read that they couldn't use the Lightning for due to legal reasons on this site. The Black Widow? Would have like to see that one instead of the many Me-110's for sure. Rockets?? I can see why they were put in, being how they played a big part in WW2...but with the unlimited supply, they are "cheap".. |

I thought the P-51 Mustang was going to be "THE" plane so I couldnt wait till I got it. I was amazed at how average it was. (However I did complete the game with it)
It was one of the most influential (and dominate) planes of WWII and it kind of sucks in the game. If you choose that plane and you are batteling someone good.... For get it... Another missing plane is F-6 HELLCAT... I would have liked to see the F-4U also... bummer they arent in the game... OTTO44 |

Amazed...disappointing.. In all truth, the American planes got no love from the programmers, with the glaring absence of the P-47 Thunderbolt, F-4U Corsair, and P-38 Lighting. These planes, along with the P-51 Mustang formed a backbone of superb American fighters. The Mustang was included, and completely disrespected, and as you mentioned, if you are against someone good, forget about it. But hey, this is the era of Downloadable Content. The programmers could rectify this situation and right the ship with some DLC that included the missing planes, and fixes for the "Cadillac of the Sky"... Come on Ubisoft, make it right...not only for the players such as myself, but for the Chuck Yeagers of the world. |

I am kind of suprised here.
Does anyone that represents the developing team even post here? Shame if they didn't. This message has been edited. Last edited by: maxGTP, |

You all have to remember that this is a "Flight Combat Game", not a simulation.

Even if it is, that doesn't excuse certain issues on this game when it comes to the way the aircraft are rated. And if it was indeed a "sim", the spits would have a hard time diving, huh? |
