man. don't return the game. UBI is having enough probs with the PC version. Just get used to the game as it is. There are pilots out there who are USED to a radio controller with the controls opposite as well. Gmaes are games made by other ppl. they make them to play and not complain about. We all are people who are very good about adapting to new things. If you can't change to new levels of configuration, how in the heck do succeed in life? Get used to the structure for now, because it will change with the next new game you play. Remember those Coleco, Sega, Activision games? Talk about default settings.... C'mon, just play the game and get used to it!!!!

Now to just wait on the result and see if Ubi Soft incorporates the function in the setup menu..... quote: Discussion Thread Response (Ubi Soft Rep) 05/05/2006 12:35 PM Thank you for the suggestion. I have sent this along through the appropriate channels for consideration. Ubi Soft Entertainment values its customer input and we do incorporate user suggestions into our products. In fact, ideas sent to us as suggestions to the Support Department have been used in the past.
Please be aware that once you submit an suggestion for game enhancements to Ubisoft or Red Storm, it becomes property of Ubisoft Entertainment. Once again, thank you for your suggestions. Customer (Tom R.) 05/05/2006 09:22 AM Any way to customize the controller configuration with a software/patch update for the Xbox 360?
Is there any way to customize the controller functions other than to swap the "Y" axis? I fly R/C planes and the Elevator and Aileron are on the Right joystick, the Throttle and Rudder are on the Left joystick, almost exactly opposite of this games controls. The Rudder and Aileron functions are correct (Left/Right Axis's) but the Elevator and Throttle (Up/Down Axis) on this game are on the opposite joysticks, reversed from the RC world where the Throttle is on the Left stick and the Elevator is on the Right stick.
After training my thumbs and brain to work without having to think about what I am doing for years on the R/C transmitter setup, I cannot get used to the reversed style of this games controls, nor do I want to get accustomed to the controller defaults, mainly because if I crash in the game, it's easy to reset and keep going on, but if I crash one of my R/C planes due to a dumb thumb move, it's a couple of thousand dollars in the dirt and down the drain. I have many friends with the Xbox that also fly RC, and they absolutely refuse to touch the game because of this one issue. It is not a huge market for your company I know, but if it were more user friendly with regards to the controller setup, alot of RC pilots would definately look at it. There are over 1 million registered RC pilots within the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) and most of them are Big Boys that play with Big Toys, plus they have the disposable income to spend on games like this. It's really right up their alley with all the Warbirds and Realism of the game.
I know the controller has a microprocessor for control inside of it, I could modify my controllers by severing the contacts from the PCB for the Right & Left Up and Down axis, then jumper the Right Up/Down potentiometer to the Left PCB solder points and vice versa for the Left Up/Down potentiometer to connect it to the Right PCB solder points, but this is not the best way to go about it.
The best way would be an option in the setup menu that would configure the Joysticks the way the Player would prefer.
Please consider doing this. Thanks in advance.

I'm also an expert R/C pilot as well as an Ultralight pilot and someone who's logged hundred of hours flying planes real and in simulators. In my opinion this product is literally defective. For most fans of flight sims it's imperative to have an option to put the pitch and roll on the same stick. Asking us to unlearn this response is frankly stupid. I refused to do this for safety reasons and returned this title the same day and swapped it for another flight game. The last thing I want to do is compromise my ability to fly a plane using proper control inputs. It's also very bad business for Ubisoft. Part of the appeal of various genres is being able to quickly pick up a new game and start having fun. Imagine an FPS with the camera controls fixed to the left stick and movement fixed to the right stick. You would have to be a pretty hardcore nut to put up with that kind of nonsense. This is exactly the same issue in a flight sim. I've been in commercial software for almost 15 years and Duckota has it completely wrong. The vendor should be accomodating the customer -- not the other way around. I spent $55 and deserve better value than this. I don't owe Ubisoft anything. For that kind of premium dollar Ubisoft owes me at least a good basic entertainment value. I'd also like to point out I'm not a flight sim purist. When I bought this game I figured I'd probably suck at the combat but at least I could fly around and shoot some stuff up and get some decent fun out of the thing. You should have seen the look on my face when I realized the controls were fixed in this whacky way. I ended up swapping it for Over G Fighters, another title published by Ubisoft. Guess what? The pitch and roll were on the same stick. TheLamestEver http://thelamegamer.com
