What about that screenshot I linked to?

Don't hold your breath waiting for an answer from Ubi!!!
There is no cockpit view just like there aren't 42 planes... what you say... I only have 41 in my game... exactly... so why does back of 360 packaging say there are 42? Just another mystery that Ubi can't be bothered to enlighten us on!!! |

that screenshot looks like it is from a beta or something, i bought the star wars DVD when it first came out and it came with a early version of the first battlefront, looked way different and played a little different too, plus the 42nd plane was probably taken out during final stages of development. maybe it was the p-38 everyone wants?

Plane #42 was indeed the P-38, pulled at the last minute due to legal constraints. It seems the trademark design for the P-38 is still held by its original manufacturer, and a legal tiff ensued shortly before release of the game and couldn't be cleared up in time for the release date. A mission or two which was counting on use of the P-38 also had to unfortunately be re-done at the last minute before release.
None of these changes were made before the printing of the box covers were locked in and sent to press, which is handled by a completely different Ubisoft location. Detailed cockpit views from the screenshot mock-ups were also axed shortly into production, as they seemed a bit superfluous to the arcade game-play the designers were trying to create, and making detailed, functional, and accurate cockpits for all 40+ playable aircraft was a very time consuming task. Cockpit view also didn't jive well with the "enemy cam" system which was considered a cornerstone of game play by the lead designer at the time. Pressing the SELECT button on the PS3 gets you into the cockpit view - but you cannot control the plane from it.

Lol, of course you can control the plane from cockpit view

Can I do that for the 360? |

Nope, the cockpits are only on the PS3 version.

Orly? Then how did I get to second position on the leaderboard using cockpit view exclusively? Riddle me this. |

cockpit views are in the wii version of the game too and you can control the plane from this view. it dosnt have chase camera, instead if you hold the A button and move the nunchuk it looks around the cockpit. its more of an eye candy feature if you can call it that, much more fun to play the game from the outside
