I'm sure that many others read Chessbase News yesterday about Bobby Fischer's Secret Correspondence and Games with other grandmasters -- with some as recent as last year!

Well, it turns out that the whole thing was a big April Fool's Day joke... so for those who were looking forward to some new insight about Fischer, you're out of luck.

Unfortunately, I was one of those gullable people who believed it...

Really? They didn't fool me for a second. The whole idea is very stretched and there are some "difficulties" like e-mails from the late 70's and last mail even has a typo (look at the date) so it is clear that they weren't copy/pasted. See my posts here.
And Fischer would have to be psychic (not a psyho ) to predict everything that actually did happen later.


That story about Kasparov taking on shogi - that was plausible and with some nice pictures. At first I thought the picures were fake (the chess board replaced by shogi board), but they are just to good to be fake. But with today technology you never know, so I've done a little research and it turns out that the pictures, interview and the game are real, but from March 1999

I guess P.T. Barnum would have had a lot of fun with me...

At first a was a bit skeptical because of the dates and because the remarks were well organized, but the death threats and comments about eternal hatred sounded familiar...

At least I've learned my lesson... they won't pull the wool over my eyes next year.
