Here is the preview of the next official FIDE rating list.
In the last weeks there have been heated debates whether the FIDE should rate the Foros tournament or not. The tournament ended after the deadline so the results couldn't be sent on time, but FIDE made exceptions before. Most notable exception was last years Morelia/Linares tournament which also ended after the deadline. The initial rating list didn't include this tournament, but then the next day FIDE updated the list, which made Anand the number 1 for the first time in his career. After that on 78th FIDE Congress decided "...to have a clear deadline, except for FIDE events listed in the FIDE Handbook. The 15th of the respective previous month is the deadline." Now we have similar situation with Carlsen - if FIDE rates Foros tournament Carlsen would be number 2, without Foros he is "only" number 6. However this time FIDE stands by it's decidion and won't rate Foros. If you wonder what this Live rating list is - it's an unofficial list where a chess fan calculates the rating change in real-time for any +2700 player on the world. Imediatelly after the tournament round is over, you can check how this would affect the ratings. |

Here is the official FIDE rating list and some statistic how the average top 100 rating increased during the last 8 years.
The official list will be used until October 1st when the new list will be released. So while Morozevich is officially number 2 (and will remain there at least until October), he is already number 4 on the provisional live rating list. First six are so close together that each tournament can produce new provisional number 1. |
