Greetings,
Is it possible to "load/import" saved games such as games I played on yahoo.com or other sites into Chessmaster to annotate/analyze them? If so, how do I do this? Here's an example game representative of what I'd like to import: ;Title: Yahoo! Chess Game ;White: gb_cary_nc ;Black: riveng71 ;Date: Mon Feb 18 22:29:46 GMT 2008 1. e2-e4 e7-e6 2. d2-d4 g8-f6 3. b1-c3 a7-a6 4. g1-f3 b7-b5 5. f1-d3 c7-c5 6. c1-e3 c5-c4 7. d3-e2 d8-c7 8. f3-e5 b5-b4 9. c3-a4 f6xe4 10. o-o c4-c3 11. e2-f3 c8-b7 12. d1-d3 c3xb2 13. a4xb2 e4-c3 14. b2-c4 d7-d6 15. e5-g4 d6-d5 16. c4-e5 f7-f6 17. e5-g6 h8-g8 18. g6xf8 g8xf8 19. a2-a3 a6-a5 20. a3xb4 b7-a6 21. b4xa5 a6xd3 22. f1-e1 d3xc2 23. e1-c1 c2-b3 24. a1-b1 b3-a2 25. b1-b2 a8xa5 26. g2-g3 a5-a3 27. e3-f4 e6-e5 28. f4-d2 e5xd4 29. c1-c2 a2-b3 30. f3-e2 c3xe2+ 31. g1-f1 b3xc2 32. f1xe2 c7-e7+ 33. e2-f1 a3-a1+ 34. d2-e1 e7xe1+ Thanks, Greg Bradburn. |

Thanks for the quick reply.
I used the utility specified in the FAQ and can successfully convert the game file to .pgn. I can open this in Chessbase so I know that worked. I still can't figure out how to open this in Chessmaster. Is done in Play mode or training mode? I don't see any option for loading a saved game. Does the game need to be added to the database somehow? The FAQ only seemed to address half the question. Thanks, Greg. |

Thats because the other part is obvious
When the converter converts the game into standard pgn just copy everything and copy it in Chessmaster. (Training mode--Edit--Paste--PGN) |

At the risk of appearing dense, maybe I am, where exactly should I paste the contents of the pgn file?
Right clicking in training mode gives me a huge context menu. I tried the various "windows" that are presented with right-clicking. I was able to paste the "game" into the player annotation window but of course that just essentially added the game history as comments to the first move (I think since the first move hasn't even happened yet). There's no menu bar from what I can tell so there's no Edit menu item that applies to the game as a whole. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I can't find anything in the FAQ or the "manual" on this. Thanks again, Greg. |

another option is, If you save the file as filename.pgn, you can go to the training mode and use FILE/LOAD which will allow you to load it right in. |

Nevermind. I found the menu bar. It seems that clicking on the plain black area above the board does indeed invoke the various menus, depending on where you click. Based on the contents of these menus I assume them to be File, Edit, etc.
From there I was able to load my .pgn file. Edit | Paste | PGN didn't seem to have any effect but that's beside the point since I can simply load my game. Why are the menus not displayed on the menu bar so I can know what I'm clicking on? |

Your DPI settings are set too high. Just click on the empty space where the drop down menus like file, edit etc are supposed to be and they will appear.

ebutaljib,
Thanks for the DPI hint. I knocked my DPI settings down to 96 (was 120) and that did the trick. Of course my desktop looks crummy now but I can just keep it at 120 unless using Chessmaster. I don't feel like such an idiot now. My questions seem pretty stupid when the menu is clearly visible but I feel vindicated now that I know it was invisible |
