I'm wondering if CMXI can do this:
I want to study an opening, and then go to the game database and select games starting from that position. In other words, I want to select an opening position from the opening training and then see how games in the database progressed from that opening.
At least in CMX, I cannot figure how to save the position from the opening training when switching to the game database view. Does anyone know how to do this?

you may tend to ignore this advice from the beginning, but it is for real:

don't use CM for analysis of any kind, especially opening analysis. it's just too weak for that. check out ChessDB which is free and a lot better, search for some free databases online (google for a few minutes and you'll find many, all better than CM's), then plug in Toga engine (which is free and a lot better the king) and there you go!

I don't see a graceful way to do this in CMXI. Frown

One option is to purchase Big Database 2008 from Chessbase for $50. It's an all-in-one package that comes with 4 million games sorted by player, opening, ending, etc. plus engines. SCID / ChessDB takes a little more effort but is also fine.
