The tournament site proclaimed Kramnik as world record holder, since he won one of the 3 traditional big tournaments (Wijk aan Zee, Linares, Dortmund) nine times. It also says that until this year he shared the record with Kasparov who won Linares 8 times.
However this is not true. Kasparov won Linares 9 times. Probably the confusion comes from Linares 2000 where Kasparov and Kramnik were shared winners. They were equal on all tie-break criteria, with the last criterion being a coin flip Instead of tossing the coin, Kasparov agreed that Kramnik should take home the winner trophy (since he already had many of them at home), but they were both considered the tournament winners (and are listed everywhere as shared winners). However the Dortmund site now forgot to count that tournament when counting Kasparov's wins in Linares.
