I was told by ubisoft technical support to post my problem here, so I'll post it and my work around solution.
Customer (Steven Faseler) - 05/25/2008 09:52 AM I was playing ranked play. I had the game in the bag. I knew right where I wanted to put my rook. I picked it up, and the dumb computer put it down in the wrong square for me! Is there a way to undo this? Is their anyway to delete the game from the rankings table? I view it as an invalid game. Or can I just reset my player stats somehow? This is very frustrating to lose a game because of a mouse glitch!
Customer (Steven Faseler) - 05/25/2008 10:28 AM Well, I found one work around. Adjourn the game. Then go to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition\Data\Users\Steve Faseler\Adjourned Games and delete the adjourned game file. (Your exact path will vary depending on the folder where you installed the game and your player name.)
It's not an optimal solution, but at least it only gets rid of one game.
I think the glitch is with the user, not the mouse...
You found the best solution... deleting the adjourned game. Other than that, the only other option is to create a new player, log in as the new player, delete the old player, and start again from scratch. There's no way to reset player statistics.
Cut me a little slack here, guys. It's not a mistake I would ever make on my own playing against a human. But I do see the potential for abuse if you were able to take back your last "move", so I guess this is the best solution possible.
I'm not in the habit of adjourning and deleting games just because I'm losing or because I make a stupid mistake. I just don't like the computer to win because of the computer! I view it almost as if the computer cheated.
Well, under "Preferences--Board settings" there is an option to select "two click moves" instead of the "drag & drop". This will prevent any future mouse slips.

I don't think I was being too hard... you made a mistake. It's nothing to be ashamed of, because everyone makes mistakes. But it has nothing to do with the computer. Saying "you view it as cheating" makes you appear like a sore loser.
Following the advice already posted here, by setting the preferences to two-click, will resolve this issue. You can't accidently let go of the piece. You can still click the wrong square.
Seriously, though, I could easily imagine some sort of scenario where you would get interrupted or distracted midgame and want to void the results. Interruptions happen all the time at my house.
You have to understand that rated games are suppose to simulate a real competition. You can easely get distracted in a tournament too, but you can't just cancel the game or take back the move because of that. Afterall it is your fault that you got distracted and made a bad move.
In training mode you can do whatever you want (take back, cancel, ask for an advice, etc.)
I can definitely understand being distracted, but putting a loophole in the program would only encourage unscrupulous people to cheat.
Keep in mind that if you're interrupted during a rated game, you can always adjourn and come back to it later... that's a lot better than trying to make up for lost time and rush things, as that leads to mistakes.
As Ebutaljib said, if you're practicing, use Training mode.
Above all, don't be like many people out there who get too focused on a rating...
