I am not able to connect anybody in LAN mode. Though in other games I could. Isn't there any direct IP connect option in lan? Becoz I am behind gateway. (my ip is like some 10.1.1.45 and I cannot connetc to any ip other than 10.1.x.x)
Whether you're playing online or LAN, you need to make sure you have all the required ports open (please read the Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition FAQ for details). That might be your problem.
In Local Area Network mode you can only play with people who are in the same local network as you are (if you even have a local network). If you want to play against anybody else, use the Online mode.
How many computers are connected to your local network?

Well, it seems I will have to wait for Chessmaster XII or may be XIII.... Why on earth there is no Direct IP option? I am in University. Here in our Hostels there are gateways and one can have access to local network of their own hostel only. To connect other hostel I have to provide IP. Like my IP is 10.1.1.56 so I cannot directly connect to 10.2.1.56 but can see 10.1.1.57's comp. on loacl area network
I understand your frustration, but why are you blaming Chessmaster? It's clearly a problem with your network/firewall setup...
Here's what the Use Manual says:
quote:
For the game to function properly, the ports needed to be opened are TCP: 668, 40000–42999 and UDP: 41006, 44000, 45000, 45001 for the ubi.com matchmaking services and UDP: 17110 for the game communication. The game was designed to facilitate connectivity even if the computer is connected through a NAT to the Internet (but keep in mind that not all router/NAT combinations work). If you can’t connect to the matchmaking services or to a game server, please contact your network administrator and provide him or her with this information.
We are not blaming anyone KHollister, we are just tryng to find an easy way out because of our University firewalls! Unfotunately we do not decide their settings and we cannot modify them

One question: Can I use Hamachi? or VPN?
Do you know of any chess program that uses Direct IP? I know that Playchess doesn't, and that's one of the biggest places for online chess...
I know you can't use Hamachi... that's been asked before. I'd say that also rules out VPN, but I'm not certain. You might want to ask Ubisoft Technical Support.
