Hello All,
On question #10 (Screen 16 of 16) of the Promotion tutorial in the Chessmaster Series tutorial, it states that the right answer is to promote the C7 Pawn to a Rook. I believe that promoting it to a Queen would be better. Am I right, and why/why not? Thanks |

No... if you promoted it to a Queen the result would be a Stalemate, as Black's king couldn't make any other move.
By promoting to a Rook, the only move Black has is Kc6. Afterwards, White can make the move Ra8, which is Checkmate. This message has been edited. Last edited by: KHollister, |

You are indeed correct. Thank you. It would be helpfull for the tutorial to not just tell you that your answer is wrong, but also explain why.
The same goes for explaining why the right answer is the correct choice. Is there a way to turn on this feature? |

Sadly, the quizzes in this portion of the tutorial don't give explanations.
You can experiment with positions you see in the quizzes... just switch to Training mode (via the Navigation bar) and select 'Copy from Academy' from the Edit menu. That might give you a better understanding of the answer. |
