I have lots of problems running this on Windows 7 Ultimate, Dual core AMD cpu 8Gb memory. Nvidia graphics, latest drivers installed
1 Every startup it says update found do you want to install it, but version is already 1.2. The update installed automatically on first run. 2 Hangs at every startup, just displays a single pawn in the center of the screen. I then press Cnt-Alt Delete, select task manager, then the game starts ???. 3 After this, I select training mode, then I get everything except there is no chessboard on the screen. I have completely removed and reinstalled twice but get the same problems. Does anyone have it working on this configuration? Thanks |

If it always says that update is found then it most likely didn't install properly. Go to "Help--About Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition" and see if it really says version 1.2.0.
If not, download the patch manually and install it as administrator (right click on the patch). |

Thanks for the reply, but compatibility mode gives the same problems.
I sure that I saw somewhere that it was compatible at least with Windows7 x32. Can anyone confirm this. Thanks |

Can you confirm that the updates are installed? Check the Help About screen... when you're in Training Mode, go to the Help menu, and select 'About Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition'. The latest version is 1.2.0'
Some people have in running on Windows 7, but they've reported the latest NVIDIA drivers are very buggy... you might have to get an older driver. Also, if you're using a Beta or Release Candidate of Windows 7, I would recommend getting the RTM (Released To Manufacturing) version, if at all possible... |

Hi,
It is definately 1.2.0 (from help/about) I am using the final release of Windows7. I will try installing an older version of Nvidia drivers. Thanks |

I got no problems on Windows 7 (pro, x64). Works just fine.

I couldn't get it to work on W7. Running a Nvidia 7600GTS. What's your setup? |

I have 64-bit Windows 7 Professional with the latest drivers (191.07) for my NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS. The game works fine.
Go to the NVIDIA site and download the latest drivers for your graphic card. |
|||
|
I also have windows 7 64 bit and a Nvidia 7600GT, with the latest Nvidia drivers. I also can't get this to work. I suspect the Nvidia 7600GT |

As I mentioned before, some people have reported problems with the newest NVIDIA drivers. After looking on NVIDIA's web site, there is some fine print about some cards not working with the latest drivers...
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate with an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT (laptop) with the 186.44 drivers and it's working fine. |

I also have the problem of the game hanging with the one pawn. Sometimes if I'm lucky I can go as far as the chessboard and main menu, but the icons are upside down and I can't click anything.
My set up is Win7 x64 with Nvidia 7800GS. I've searched the internet long and hard with no answer and it seems like, from this post only the people with the Nvidia 7xxx series are having problems even though the website says the game supports any card from 3 to 8? I also had Chessmaster 10 that used to work with XP but doesn't with Win7. Is anyone else having problems with the Nvidia 7xxx series cards? |

OK, as someone has mentioned, I tried installing different drivers for my display and I finally got it to work. First of all, I will assume you have an Nvidia graphics card.
The driver that I had was Geforce 190 and this is my starting point. It did not work, so naturally I updated to 191, and still didn't work. I tried the beta which is 195 and that made it worse. So I went back and installed an old 181 driver and presto! I just chose that one randomly and there are newer and older versions than that driver, but I did not experiment with those as I've already found a solution. Hopefully my other games will work with it, but if they do not I will probably have to update the driver as much as possible while still being able to play chessmaster. Here is the website where you can find older Nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us Good luck guys! |

Looks like NVIDIA GeForce 7600 series is the problem. It has nothing to do with Windows 7.
Did you try alcyone1023's solution? |
|||
|
Yes i did try that 181 is th oldest driver available, it still didn't work...
Thanks for your help so far guys, any other ideas?? please, thanks |

Go to "C:\Users\Your_Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Ubisoft\Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition\"
and open cm.ini file. Under [settings] change OpenGL=0 to OpenGL=1 P.S.: The path is "Program Files (x86)" if you are running 64-bit version of Windows. |

Ebutaljib, thanks for the post, i got it working by installin a really old vista driver.
