When I create a custom personality, I have no troubles playing a rated or unrated game with it. However if I try to create a tournament where I select my opponents, and I try to select the custom made player as one of the opponents, the game crashes when I try to get to the next screen everytime. I experimented with Chessmaster 10 and got the same problem at the same place.

The strange thing is, if I set choice of opponents to random, and the custom player is selected, the tournament starts without a hitch. Has anyone else encountered this problem, because from what I have read, one should be albe to use these custom made personalitites in tournaments.

Hmmm... I'm not having a problem with this.

I chose 'Set up Personality...' from the Game menu, and chose Luca, and created a new personality. I changed various settings, and saved the personality. Then I created a 2 person Round Robin tournament (with my custom personality and myself). I didn't get any kind of crash, and I was able to play the tournament.

Are you doing things the same way, or differently?

yes that is exactly how I am doing it, but when I choose the custom player, then click next, the game crashes. I am going to try this out on another computer and see if I reproduce the result, my guess is that it is something to do with this computer and not the game itself. I have vista on this computer, the other one is windows XP, let's see if it makes a difference.

Ok I figured out what I was doing to create the crashes. When I created the custom personality, in the name portion, I was putting in fictitious countries of origin eg. Smith (GBR). The parentheses cause the crash. When I finally tried a name without the brackets, the tournament started with no troubles. Also it appears that if I use {}, there is no crash eg. Smith {GBR}.

Now that I have caused myself all this trouble over a triviality, let's see if I can actually learn how to play chess. Thanks for your response
