Hi ebutaljib,

I am not going to take part in the debate. I just wanted to wish you well in whatever you turn to next. I also wanted to say "Thank You" for all of the hard work that you put into the ChessMaster forums. Yours has been a very thankless job in the field of "Voluntarism".

I think everyone here except maybe a few has seen the impact of your hard work now that your very valuable posts are gone. I have enjoyed our shared love for this game called Chess and still hope to see you on the Fritz Server in the broadcast room where we can still discuss our much loved game of Chess. This is a great loss to this forum, as well as to UbiSoft who's support for the ChessMaster product has been the poorest of all.

PS: Remember, there are always other forums you can go to and discuss all things related to Chess. You have added much value here, and it is now one of the greatest losses here. With this loss, I will no longer post here as well, and I feel that my journey with the ChessMaster product line must now come to a end as well. Once again "Thank You" for all of your hard work.

Goodbye and have fun

ebutaljib,

I don’t want to get involved in this too but I want to thank you for your immense commitment to the chess-community.

I want to say also that I liked your style as a moderator very much.
You had the power to ban all those noobs with their stupid questions/statements but you decided to throw the towel in the ring.

Anyway have fun in whatever you will do next!

You could of course come back and forget all about the incident too.

Cheers,

Biker.

Ebutaljib,
Being a moderator is not an easy task. The moderator is always open to criticism and certainly cannot please all the people all the time.
You must know this.
You have done an excellant job here and also at the CMX forum. And you have contributed a wealth of information in addition to helping posters with their problems.

I for one will miss your posts and hope you will take time to reconsider and come back.

I agree with jaime1973.

I always found your posts informative and often very entertaining!

It's a shame it has come to this.

Ebutaljib: I rarely post but read a lot and have taken advantage of your obvious wealth of knowledge re chess and Chessmaster. Seems to me that 99% of your posts were cordial and helpful. As far as the other 1%....well, we all have our moments. Additionally, I can readily understand your frustration with some of the questions asked which, on occasion, prompted a response that could be construed as less than cordial and/or helpful. Having said all of that, I would like to ask you to reconsider your position and perhaps return to the forum wher you can be of invaluable service to others not as gifted as you. I would also like to ask the others on this forum to magnanimously forgive what they see as a trespass and go on as though this invective never occurred.

Wha? When did I accuse you of being a thief - cite the post please. OTHER PEOPLE accused you of being a thief because you had said you wanted to use a pirated copy of the game. But I had nothing to say about that. What I accused you of was being rude, abusive, obnoxious, profane and a bully when you acted sarcastically to a new member (Syne7). In other words I berated you for the same sort of abuse that I berated Ebutaljib for. Yes, I have a problem with bullies - I think they're cowardly. But I never called you a thief.

Ebu: you're the best. i wish you all the best, and hope things work out.

people over here were very ungrateful. some newbies, just showing up one day, thinking they're everything.. pushing their 'weight' around.

you've helped me lots, and i don't know what messages some are referring to, but the ones they quote i don't find insulting.. i do sense witty humor though. i guess these guys need to get off they're emotional rollercoaster, and be men. it's like they're ragging weeks on end. i would have done exactly what you did. i'm sure you thought about it for a while before you did it.. it wasn't just a rash decision.

i bet the few guys posting stuff against you are actually the same person... at the most 2 people, tops!

there are more for you, than against you.

for those bashing ebu: you're nothing but trolls... you WISH you were a mod on this forum, and you're jealous. you pretend like you care, but you don't. you have WORDS to back you up ONLY, he's got YEARS of ACTIONS that PROVE he cares. the odd joke, is nothing. and if people took a couple of minutes to read the READ THIS FIRST message, all this would be avoided.

trolls:
you expect him to be patient.. but you're not patient yourself. okay, so he's a veteran.. fine.. but you're not a newbie.. why aren't you patient? did you send private messages first? or did you announce his alleged fault in PUBLIC message boards. maybe he would have reacted better if you tried to resolve things privately. for the future, don't make people faults public and expect them to react calmly and cooly. and remember: practice what you preach. you want him to be patient, FIRST you should have shown patience yourself. to quote famous words: "you see the straw in your brothers eye, but don't see the beam in your own." and remember: don't cry.

Hi Tomski1981,

Or should I say "Hi Ebu,".

Nice to see that you're still hanging around the forums, acting like a spoiled child.

Thanks for all the recent spam around here too.

Take care,

Reuben

Yes, the nerve of some people! I mean, suggesting that the moderator 'shouldn't be sarcastic to newbies'? Asking a moderator to 'behave like a moderator'? I mean what is the world coming to when a guy like BeeryUS, who has been on the forum a couple of weeks, can suggest such things to a seasoned veteran? I mean the very idea that a moderator with years of forum experience should treat new members with respect - it's laughable! It's silly and anyway it wouldn't work! BeeryUS should be whipped!

But sadly, the internet being what it is and with no recourse for a dictator moderator to exercise the real power that should be his right, the only thing he can do when faced with such an appalling lack of toadying is to remove every thread he's ever started and leave the forums. He was right to do it and we all deserved to lose every bit of his wisdom that he generously gave us over the years. I mean we all allowed this BeeryUS character, with his radical agenda of being nice to newbies, to infiltrate our forum - a forum that has been newbie-free for months.

And to those who say that Ebutaljib was a bit hasty in removing all his posts I say this - would you be so quick to judge if I was waving a bayonet within inches of your private parts? I don't think so!

I mean the nerve of this BeeryUS guy! Who would have thought that in our day and age, a seasoned dictator moderator should be asked to behave decently on his own forum? I mean discouraging new members is what dictatorship moderation is all about!

If every dictator moderator treated new members as human beings where would we be? I'll tell you where we'd be - we'd have new members joining the forums every day and enjoying their time here. With mutual respect rearing its head at every turn, the entire fabric of the forum would be changed. Forum membership would soar out of control, people might even try to help new members become better chess players, and where would that end? This whole business is scandalous!

What we need is a return to old-fashioned values! Bring back hanging! Shoot every man who suggests being nice to people! Erect massive 50ft tall marble statues of Stalin! Let the streets run red with the blood of the non-believers! Mandatory wearing of pink frilly underwear on weekends! Oh, and make Groundhog Day a paid vacation day for every business with over 23 employees.

As webmaster of an engine chess website, I definetely know about how you might feel now. One puts a lot of time, money and efforts into bringing other people tips, tricks, help, downloads and knowledge - and all one expects for this is just a polite behavior and a "Thank you" now and then, but in reality you often just get a knife right in your back, metaphorically spoken of course.

Due to this, I have seen a couple of dozen helpful people vanishing from the scene and even more websites going down which formerly provided valuable data that is now gone forever.

I don´t know if you still read here, but let me be one of the guys to say "Thank you" and wish you all the best for your future endeavours. Once it were your help-files which helped me to make CMX work for me and I still play it often.

Regards,

Mike

Hi ebutaljib,

I wish u the best, thank u for your greath job. U where always the first to answer my questions and u always helped me and other.
It seems some other forum members think they can do the job beter then u. But I guess once this is over they will disappear.

About deleting own posts/threats.
Its maybe sad but u where still owner of these posts. If the forum supports this there is nothing wrong with it. If someone has complains about it they should ask it to the admin of the forum and not naging about it on this threat.

greetings from TryRaptor

Let's use this simple method to solve this delicated question:

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE GAME IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!! ON THE BLUE TEAM, EBUTALJIB, A.K.A. THE DEVOURER OF POSTS! ON THE RED TEAM, BEERYUS, A.K.A. THE GUARDIAN OF THE NOOBS!

Alright, the rules are as following:each round will give one point to either one of the combatants (or one half point to both). The so-called "rounds" are based on the arguments of both contestants. LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!

ROUND 1:

Thou (the moderator) shall help thy community.

ebutaljib was one of the most dedicated moderators I've ever seen. Flawless victory here.

SCORE: Blue 1 x 0 Red

ROUND 2:

Thou shall respect noobs.

ebutaljib did not gave the noobs the respect they deserved. On the other hand, some noobs can ask really stupid questions. Moderators are always risking their sanity with their job. Draw.

SCORE: Blue 1.5 x 0.5 Red

ROUND 3:

Thou shall not start killing sprees involving thy neighbour's posts.

Although ebutaljib can do whatever he want with his posts, he had no right to delete entire threads (including a thread with official downloads from Ubi Soft). Beeryus has a point.

SCORE: Blue 1.5 x 1.5 Red

FINAL SCORE: Blue Team and Red Team are drawn with 1.5 point each one. This battle can only be concluded in the old-fashioned way:

TIC TAC TOE!!!

When the contestants are ready, we will start the final battle. But for now, let's hear some words from our sponsors...

P.S.: Sorry for my bad English...
P.P.S.: Sorry for my lame jokes...

By the way: The sites where you can download chess sets from missimat, Skess, c1arinetboy etc. are still active. And the original links can still be found somewhere in the forum, they are just not all in one place anymore. The official chess sets and patches can still be downloaded from the same adress, you only have to know it. Same goes for the endgame generator, chess sets extracting tool, the file on how to make your own tutorial. Everything is still available, the links are just not collected all in one place anymore. Thats all.

So I beleive the score is Blue 2 vs. Red 1 Wink
