Hi all

Newbie to CM11 and havent played chess for years. Enjoying the game and the tutorials, etc, but confused when I play a ranked game as the change in my rating never seems to match what the CM11 says it will. For example, it says I will gain 11 on a draw and I gain over 100 points. Ditto when I lose, the numbers don't match. Am I missing something obvious here?

Yes, there sometimes seems to be a difference between your elo change, and what the analysis says your elo change will be. I think this occurs for two reasons
1) you are still provisional (i.e., you have not had enough games to have a stable elo. When you start playing, your elo is a bit varied, but then settles down after about 20 games. So the analysis elo estimate is what you would have if you had over 20 games)

2) Cm seems to keep ratings for different time controls, though it does not tell you what the different ratings are. so if you have played thirty 5 minute games, you will have a blitz rating. if you then decide to play a 60 minute standard game, you will suddenly be put back to provisional rating, and your elo may vary wildly.


so it is a bit buggy, our old cm. I would recommend you create a different persona for each time control you want to use. I have one persona for blitz and another persona for long time control. that way the blit and long ratings never get mixed up
