Usually, when going through an analysis, there is always a move which the computer suggests, but for which I think to have an answer (usually I'm wrong). Thus I want to know what is wrong with the move I have in mind. I save the position, go to the set position room, load it, make my move and set a game against chessmaster to see his counter-move. Then I go back to the analysis.
I would like to know if there is an easier and faster way to do it. Like the memo board on the training room. There you can continue from a set position and input a move, but when asking chessmaster to give you a hint, it uses the running game board... useless for what I want. Is there an easy way to input a move during an analysis, get chessmaster to analyse it and come back to the analysis? If not, it would be a nice feature to have a kind of 'what if' command. |

Well, there's a new feature called Analysis Mode that's available in Training, Ranked Play, and Tournament Play. Here's how to use it:
1. On your move, right-click and select 'Analysis Mode' from the Action menu (it seems to only be available on the right-click menu, not the top menus). 2. Select 'Analyze'. 3. Make whatever moves you want to look at (for both sides). When you're done: 1. Right-click, select 'Analysis Mode', and select 'Clear Moves'. 2. Right-click, select 'Analysis Mode', and select 'Quit Analysis'. Note that during all this, your clock is still running. This is still rather cumbersome -- it's almost like this feature wasn't well planned out before it was implemented. But that's my personal opinion. Hope this helps! |

I think it's even better if after Chessmaster analyses your game you save your game in cmg format. Then you go to the training mode and load the game. You move through the moves as you pleases. When you will like to try something else just click "Game--Set up game" chose your opponent (you can chose chessmaster or you can chose that precise opponent you were playing against to se what he would have responded) set the timer, and execute the new move. It will be like playing a whole new game from that position. After you are finished retract all new moves and move on with the original game. Repeat the whole process when you reach new critical position.

KHollister, it seems that the feature is not yet working properly. I wasn't able to use it for my goal, at least. Thanks anyway.
Ebutaljib, this method really works well. In fact, I would prefer not to be forced to save the game and reloading it, but it is a lot better than the way I used to do. Believe it or not, I didn't know what this down arrow was supposed to do... only now I see that more than one line is kept in memory so that you can come back and continue with the previous line. A whole new world of possibilities materializes in front of me! thanks |
